Battlefield 3 support class
The Support class in Battlefield 3 is equipped with a heavy machine gun capable of delivering great suppressive fire against enemies. The support class also serves a “support” in a literal sense: to resupply ammo to teammates. The support class can either go heavy, with a light machine gun which can be mounted on surfaces with a bipod, or they can go light, with an infantry assault rifle, which provides more mobility and accuracy. The starting weapons for the support class in Battlefield 3 are the M27 for the US, and the RPK for the Russians.

Support tips

The support class can be extended beyond its main role as a machine gunner and ammo resupplier: the support in Battlefield 3 has many other options, such as the ability to carry C4 explosives, which are useful against enemy vehicles, buildings and much more. Furthermore, the Support can deploy a 60mm mortar, which gives it great long-range capability against enemy vehicles and infantry who have dug themselves in. But always remember that you carry that ammo pack, and to resupply your teammates with it.

The mortar has to be on a completely flat surface and away from overhangs. Unfortunately, i dont think you can use it on a few gametypes.

its because support uses the most ammo suppressing also their LMGs take ages to reload so they’re not invincible, giving them something good like an ammo kit helps balance them as they are the least agile and slowest of all the classes.

my only problem with support is unlimited claymores…fair enough you can only lay out 2 at a time but its going to get very tiring on a IO map……supports going to be pretty unstoppable in IO matchs…especially the ones with no TKs…

well no the claymores and c4 are not limited. when you first start out, if you have 2 claymores to begin with, you can only lay two claymores. and if you try and resupply to lay more, after you lay a third one down, one will disappear so there is still only two. although you can have two laid down and still be able to hold two more. (the totally number of claymores you can lay down increases if you have the explosives spec. or someone on your squad has squad explosives) all the rules are the exact same with c4

Nah, mostly playing as support and trust me, it’s not overpowered… in some maps it’s probably the worst class to play as, still needed tho, someone has to resupply the team.

I’m finding engineers with their sniper style rocket launcher use more OP than anything really, and their small machine guns can take me down surprisingly faster (seeming less shots) than I can take them down with my Rambo style LMG which seems odd but hey, such is life.

Unlimited claymores it may be, but (on PC) from my experience, rarely do anything good, if rocket or granade explodes near them – they pop anyway, even under friendly fire, plus if enemy is moving slow in front of them or is crawling – they won’t trigger.

Mortar is only useful if you have team that is marking targets, otherwise you’re shooting blind – very deadly if team kills are enabled, even shooting at marked red enemy dead on I still manage to take out my team mate in the process here and there. At the moment the only map where Mortar really shines is Sienne Crossing, but it can turn into spammy combat if you get too many trigger happy Support units there, and the fact that Snipers just love you sitting there trying to set up your mortar and operate it perfectly still makes it that more fun trying to figure out best spots where to put it down.

Overall – while the class description may suggest it’s very OP and all – in effect it’s far from it, it doesn’t get to use it’s tricks often in practice, and recoil of LMG makes it very challenging to fight in tight situations, shake is so bad that you can unload 50+ bullets in ‘general direction’ of an enemy thinking you’re aiming right at him – essentially shooting up every bit of walls, windows, boxes and some stray dog – while leaving the guy mostly unharmed… :P

Then u can’t shoot…. I’ve had support guys snipe me from around 300 meters. And those bullets do MUCH more dmg than an assault rifle… I’ve been fighting support classers and I have to unload about 1/3 of my mag at them because of the BF3 LAG while they just pew pew at me and i’m dead since their weapons do much more dmg only real way to kill em is if you take them by surprise… though I had LMGsers trurn around and pop no more than 3 shots and kill me because of the Machine Gun’s impossible accuracy if you burst. It’s better than assault rifle accuracy. So yes Support class is OP even at it’s most basic loadout. If u don’t believe me, look at random ppl’s stats, u’ll see that support class player stats are WAY above all other class stats.

but support class weapons have lots of recoil, you can’t really hit anything at any distance without the bipod

I also play support as my main class. Its is not at all op. Foregrips often do not lower the recoil by much and bipods can be cumbersome limiting you to defensive purposes. Mortars never directly hit anyone because of their really long flight time, and makes you vulnerable t snipers as well, and in large conquest maps, claymores do you no good. Machine gun reload times are also very inhibiting as well, if you are engaging anyone else with a magazine with20 bullets or less, count yourself as dead. My stats are very mediocre and cannot compare well to those of other classes. If any coass is OP, its the assault class. They can heal themselves quick
Y, have a very versatile grenade launcher, and their assault rifle shines in medium range combat, which is where most engagements happen. Not to mention for an assault every revive gives them points wise, the equivalent of a kill. The description here makes the support sound op, when in reality, few people play it, and it is actually rather underpowered

i’m only playing support now to unlock the BTK weapons.

The classes arebalanced the clays should be limited.

If you think the support class is OP then take a look at the medic class. My friend gets top on the team every game because of reviving. Also the Engineer is really OP too. Eat it.

Well… upside, I can still snipe with my light machine gun. But again, since I play the role of supporting… God, this will be interesting.

NO CLASS IS OVERPOWERD!!!! All classes balance out each other, support put suppertion long range, but is countered by snipers cause a lmg doesn’t beat a sniper at long range. But snipers are also not op cause when they are scoped in a assault or engineer can take them out from the side no problems also assault may be able to get tons of points from reviveing and healing but that’s not OP because it doesn’t just benefit u it helps the hole team. Engineer can get tons of points by taking out tanks and repairing and if there’s a problem with the rockets put on flak even beater squad flak

The support class can be amazing if used properly. I use it like its meant to be, supressing fire. If i have a friend running along with me, i usually get TONS of assists. And i know they’re not kills but i still usually end up in the top 1/2 of the match just on assists. Now, lemme tell ya, the best supressing fire is down a hallway, protected, with and ammo pack, and the bipod set up on the wall. NOBODY can withstand the awesomness.
