BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The sniper rifles in Battlefield 3 will be comprised of real world rifles that are in service in various armies around the world. Battlefield 3 will feature two standard semi-automatic sniper rifles that both sides start out with. Sniper rifles in Battlefield 3 can be customized with a variety of scope and other options.
MK11
The MK11 is based on the SR-25 assault rifle and provides great accuracy with the benefits of an assault rifle’s larger magazine and mobility. The MK11 is one of the brand new rifles in Battlefield 3, and makes its first appearance in the series.
SVD
The SVD in Battlefield 3 is the starting sniper rifle for the Russian side. It’s a semi-automatic sniper rifle that’s been in use for over 50 years.
M40A5
The M40A5 sniper rifle in Battlefield 3 is closely related to the M24 which was used in previous Battlefield games.
SV98
The SV98 is a Russian made bolt action sniper rifle and is available in Battlefield 3 as an unlock for both US and Russian forces.
M98B
The Barret M98 is a bolt action sniper rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum round, and is one of the last sniper rifles to be unlocked in Battlefield 3.
M39
The M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle is an unlockable semi-automatic sniper rifle in Battlefield 3, and is one of the last sniper rifles to be unlocked.
SKS
The SKS is a semi automatic sniper rifle that’s unlocked early in Battlefield 3. The Russian made rifle is great at close and medium ranges, and sports a 20 round magazine.
M82
The M85 .50 cal sniper rifle has been replaced in Battlefield 3 with the semi-automatic M85, which makes its first appearance in Battlefield 3. The M85 went into service into 1989 and is still used around the world.
Type 88
Type 88 is a Chinese made semi automatic sniper rifle introduced in China in 1988, and has been used ever since. It appeared in the previous few Battlefield games, and is set to reappear in Battlefield 3.
m95 should be the m82a3. Also have seen the FN’s Mk20 ssr. Pretty smexy, they need a EVERY weapon that is in current use by armed forces.
The reason they dont put the m82 in is because of balancing issues, a semi auto 50 cal would be to powerful and they definitely need the m40a5
DICE’s excuses are the worst, Like “People will camp with it at long ranges” in the meantime an LMG can bipod up in hall and mow down as many people he can see, or “It’ll be overpowered” yet they allowed a fully automatic grande spewing shotgun go, Or “People will just stay in deployment with it” while this is acceptable for a mortar? Every sniper rifle is a “super long range sniper” you just have to compensate for bullet drop.
With the bullet drop if you are shooting cross map on caspian border its almost to the bottom of your sights
So you can call a M1911 a sniper by just adjusting the bullet drop, that would be kinda cool, too bad it’s impossible. TROLOLOLOLOLOL

No Ryan, dancingbutterfly has the right ideas of how to counterbalance the M82A3′s power. The only difference that the M95 and M82A3 would have in multiplayer is obviously the bolt-action on the M95. Having the M95 would still warrant very high damage and range to make deadly accurate shots. If the devs. would just add high recoil, slower recovery time, and slower movement speed on the hypothetical M82A3, it would be just as balanced. The M95 on BF:BC2 has very slight recoil, yet had the damage and range to still be very accurate shooting from the outer hills, for example, on Arica Harbor. If you ask me, that weapon was overpowered. No one bothered to use any other sniper rifle in that game, for obvious reasons. Wise up.
Call me crazy Kyzer but I really liked the m24. I felt like I could hit stuff most accurately with that weapon on Heavy Metal. I rarely used the 95 in the game. I got addicted to the mg36 and used the default scope.
I would like to see weapon shake from long target holding and claymores added to the mandatory loadout. Mortar strikes and C4 would still be the primary loadout options.
Actually, they need to include the M-107 if they’re going to put a semi-auto .50 cal in the game. The M-95 is the latest Barrett bolt-action .50 cal so if they do not include the M-107 I’m fine with that.
I’m sad not to see the CheyTac M200 Intervention on the list and also not the trusty .338 AWSM. Would make me very happy to see those in the game.
This isn’t MW 2 fuck out of here with an intervention i had enough of that sniper rifle everything they got in BF 3 is perfect and very precise. I’m loving the way it is now… its gonna be great especially when this goes competitive!
Just because a bunch of kids used it in mw2 like a shotgun means nothing. It’s the most accurate sniper rifle made [ I think square inch groupings at about 2400 meters ( mile and a half)]. The only negative would be balance in multiplayer as it shoots a .408, less raw power ( but not much) than a .50, but more accurate.
Sorry that’s not the range they tested it at ( was around 1000 meters)but it still holds the record for accuracy.

Do you mean NATO? Because Russia is in the United Nations, it has a seat on the Security Council, and so is pretty much every country in the World. It wouldn’t be possible to include all the weapons used by the forces of the Russian Federation, there’d just be too many.

The M95 was the short version of m82, the M82A3 it’s like the RPG, you put it on your back and fire, but the M95 or M99 SW 01 was the shorter version for MARINE’s helicopters.

the longest shot made that I heard of was by canadian in the US Marines using a .50 caliber at over a mile and a half but thats all I and I study the military a lot.
i think the longest confirm kill was made with L115A3 which uses .338 caliber, and the distance was about 2,47km..

Ha! You’re 110% right. Tac50 definitely holds the record. I got to play with that weapon…. I’m in pretty good shape and I just do not see how anybody is firing that thing other than from a prone position. Very beautiful weapon. I have picture with it.
If Battlefield plans to be modern they need newer sniper rifles. I think definitely:
1 – CheyTac M200 Intervention – Great bold action rifle, the best in the world
2 – Barrett .50 Cal – A semi-automatic beast with tremendous stopping power
3 AWP – Artic Warfare Magnum – Another bolt action rifle which is great for artic and tundra warfare
4 – M24 – Was great in BF BC2 and it will in BF3
5 – M110 – Great semi automatic and good for taking out large groups of the enemy!
Please these sniper rifles should definitely be in this game

The intervention currently holds the tightest group of 5 rounds at 1000 yards. It’s a great weapon. Have you ever seen shooter!!!

thank you the as 50 an over powered horrible accuracy weapon, ment for seasoned vets to destroy anything, why should the milkor whore be the only one to F*** a tank up? ive had some amazing shots thanks to that gun and it should be included i so hope it is. its not a weapon i use alot but worth it when you have a camper you want to prove a point to. lol

How are they going to make a game where the main charcters are Marines and they have the Army M24? the M40a3 or the M40a5 should be the rifle they put in there along with the Chey Tac Intervention and the semi auto barrett 50.Cal becuase the 50 in BFBC2 there were too many bolt action rifles and since people dont die with i shoot them in the chest with any sniper which is bs i would like to reengage my intended target before he hides

you forgot that the Shey Tac Intervention´s efective ranges is 2.300 meters and total range is 3.500 meters
dont forget the Barret M99 which has an effective range over 2600m…:P

The AWP DOES exist. It’s basically your Arctic Warfare rifle, with ‘P’ meaning ‘Police.’
It’s provided to law-enforcement and lesser non-millitary personnel.
AWP actully exsist, because you have several different versions of it, u have the .308 (L96) and the bigger more powerful .338 (L115) and they are both called AW Magnum. (The Artic Warefare Police -AWP is just the Law-enforcements/millitary models) The AW Magnum is open for sale to everyday hunter’s. Accuracy International England. BF3 is going to be a more realistic, urban setting based FPS.
The CheyTac M200 (The Intervention) is a weapon system designed to be used at extreme ranges (1500+ meters) for soft targets (Troops, Thin Cover, Ect.) and weighs in at a massive 31 pounds. The weapon is also large and needs to be set up. Using it in a urban setting is unpractical.
The M82 is a viable choice, however the M95 would be more logical as it is signifigantly lighter. Though both could exist in game; The M82 has 10 rounds per magazine and is semi-automatic. The M95 is more accurate, has less recoil, and is bolt action.
The AWP is alright. I doubt it will be included however; USMC, OpFor, and Russian Military are the confirmed factions. However many more are possible. (:

M40 rather than the M24, and excuse my mistake, the Mk11 and the M110 are diffrent weapons, though they are very similar; and manufactured by KAC.
Yet still people forget about the Barrett M99-1 (or is it M99-I?) :/ some call it the “Big Shot”.
Incorrect the M95 does not have less recoil or is not more accurate. They have the EXACT same barrel design and the EXACT same barrel length. The only difference between the M95 and the M82 is that the M95 is a bullpup, bolt action sniper where as the M82 is a semi-automatic sniper. The M82 is way more practical because you can easily have a follow up shot where as the M95 you have to try and spot the target again as it is a bolt-action sniper. This is exactly the reason that the chose the M82 over the M95.
In general. Bolt action rifles tend to be signifcantly more accurate than semi-automatics. Also a bullet fired out if a bolt action has a higher velocity than one fired from a semi
actually the m95 is more accurate because of barrel cool down where as the m82 you can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger so for RL refrence the m95 is more accurate than the m82

the rifle used don’t mean shit i take out players in BC2 with the m24 like a hot knife through butter it don’t matter what rifle u use if u know how to shoot an u know the map u will benifit an the reason i choose that rifle over any else is the fact that i only need 1 shoot to take that player down even if it takes 10 to 20 minutes an if u give a semi auto i’ll use it as a pistol bolt all the way mate

I think you should read the Geneva Convention treaties more closely. Yes there are certain laws restricting conventional ammunition(ie. hollow points) but, there are also many loopholes and the fact that each nation has to ratify each part. For instance the use of white phosphorous has been banned by many nations but the U.S. continues to use it since they, we, refuse to ratify that part. Also if one side breaches the treaty the other side no longer has to abide by it either. Only the aspect of “grave breaches” remian, pertaining to treatment of civilians and a few other issues. The .50 round is legal to use. Besides the term “war crime” is rather silly; all it does is give the victor the right to execute the loser after the war ended.
Also, the M98b has been confirmed through SPECACT skins I think.
Barret FTW Distinctive sound, huge round, massive destruction of human and non-human targets, looks, sounds, and feels cool. Reminds me i hope (but doubt) theyd make the injuries more graphic, explosions blow off limbs, bullet holes more distinct, blood trails, etc…
It’s impossible to add in limb loss, decapitation, etc to a battlefield game. Why? Think about it, how would you revive a guy who gas lost limbs or a a head?

well i really hope the cheytech is definatly in there but the really need to put the l96 just so we have nore of a varity of top of the line sniper rifles to chose from! O and hopfully they make it to where you can actully lay down… huge flaww in bf2!!
They did state that prone is returning and just because the m2000 is in cod doesnt make it the greatest gun
However, it probably is the greatest long-range soft target gun not counting sniper skill…according to Futureweapons at least :\. But I like that new .408 CheyTac round also to be used in the *drumroll* C-14 Timberwolf (CANADA REPRESENT).

Put the m40a5 up against the m24, the m40 will shoot tighter every time. You can buy exact copies of each rifle from GA Precision. the m24 costs about $1,000 less. And the standard issue scopes for the m24 cost about $1,200. The scopes for the m40 cost around $3k. There’s a reason the USMC Snipers are regarded as the best in the world.
Actually, Swedish or Canadian snipers are the best. U.S comes close tho.
You do realize that the M24 and M40 are based off the same weapon, remington 700 24″ barrel with a 1 in 12 twist. Only difference in the rifles are the stocks and the sniper behind them. Marines are the better snipers not just because of the gun.
Nobody will probably see this post, but oh well. Anyway, you sir obviously do not know anything about the difference between an M40A1, A3, or A5 and a pea shooter… I mean an M24. The only thing the army did to call a Remington an M24 is put a custom HS stock on it. The Marines on the other hand, completely remodeled the R 700. The only thing that they use from the original rifle is the (short) action. From that they replaced the barrel with a Schneider 25″ 1 in 12″ twist rate. The stock they used originally was the McMillan A1. Now they use the A4. Pretty sure they also hand load ammo for each specific rifle. Now everybody knows the difference.
PS. The M40s do shoot better than the M24s.

Actually I’d say Canada has the top snipers also it’s a British person who has the longest confirmed kill at 2707 yards. JS
A British and a Canadian hold the record for longest kills but, number of confirmed kills goes to Finnish sniper with over 500 sniper kills and a total of over 700 kills in 119 days during WW2. After that it goes to Russian snipers(including a woman with over 300 kills) in WW2. As far as modern day sniper kills it goes to U.S. snipers(not even close). It just wouldn’t be right to not mention the greatest sniper of all; “White Feather” Carlos Hathcock USMC. The man who made the shot which is constantly recreated in movies, through a Vietcongs scope and into his eye.
The M40 and M24 are the same rifle, the Remmington 700. M40 is the Marine designation while the M24 is the Army designation. The only difference between them is that the Army uses a longer action version so they can transition to a larger cartridge, which is exacty what they did in making the XM2010 firing the .300 WinMag instead of staying with the shorter range and smaller 7.62 NATO(7.62×51 M118LR). The XM2010 is just a Remmington 700 with new bells and whistles.
i agree i get 1 shot kills with the m24 and i hardly use the m95 becuase i dont like it and i think its over glorified
Also the M24 is being phased out in favour of the converted XM2010 rifles in action starting 4 months ago.

I recently heard a rumor that sniping in BF3 is going to be able to have a scout…i get a computer with you and can range the shots and see were everyone is on the map and wind is also going to be involved when you snipe to make it more realistic and also with the correlation affect.

it wasnt the l96 it was a canadian sniper named robert furlong in operation anaconda with a macmillan tac 50
actually… the longest shot was made on Nov/2009 by Corporal Harrison (UK), 2475m, eclipsing the previous shot by 50 meters 0.o
