BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
For the support classes in Battlefield 3, a variety of popular sub-machine guns (SMGs) and carbines are available, ranging from handheld personal defense weapons and guns, to larger carbine rifles. In Battlefield 3, engineers will mostly use the carbines, while SMGs and personal defense weapons and guns will be available to all classes.
UMP-45
The German made UMP-45, short for “Universal Machine Pistol”, is a widely used sub-machine gun in the world, and is popular among police and anti-terror forces. It’s an unlockable SMG in Battlefield 3.
AKS 74U
The AKS 74U, based on the AK-74 with a shorter barrel and lighter construction, is the main carbine for the Russian special forces. It’s also the main carbine for the Russian engineer class in Battlefield 3.
M4A1
The M4A1 is a popular carbine among US forces, and returns in Battlefield 3 as the starting carbine rifle for the US engineer class.
SCAR-H
The FN SCAR-H is a fully automatic carbine rifle based on the SCAR-L and is an unlock for the engineer class in Battlefield 3.
G36C
The G36C is a carbine rifle based on the G36, and is the last carbine to be unlocked for the engineer class in Battlefield 3.
SG553
The SG553 is a Swiss-made carbine rifle based on the SG550 gun. in Battlefield 3, the SG553 is unlocked by the engineer class.
P90
The FN P90 was introduced in 1990 and is a popular submachine gun among special forces and anti-terrorism groups. It is used throughout the world in armies, police and SWAT forces. The P90 is available as an unlock in Battlefield 3.
MP7
The Heckler & Koch MP7 is a personal defense weapon with a new and more powerful 4.6x30mm cartridge designed to penetrate body armor. The MP7 was developed by HK and officially entered service in 2001. The MP7 can be unlocked and used by all classes in Battlefield 3.
PP-2000
The PP2000 is a Russian-made sub-machine gun designed for close quarter combat for police and special forces. The PP2000 is one of the first weapons to be unlocked in Battlefield 3.
PDW-R
The PDW-R (Personal Defense Weapon), is an unlockable SMG in Battlefield 3 which can be used by all classes.
A-91
The A-91 is a Russian-made bullpup-style carbine rifle with an integrated 40mm grenade launcher. It’s still in the testing stages in use at various Russian armed forces. The A-91 can be unlocked by the engineer class in Battlefield 3.

we dont want the battlefield 3 multiplayer to be like BBC2′s chances are, and some of these weapons were not in the P.C. beta (the ones mainly from BBC2)

Actually there is a difference between carbines and submachine guns. SMGs are small(er) guns designed to shoot pistol rounds (9mm, .40, .45, etc).
Some are designed to shoot rifle-like rounds (P90, MP7).
Carbines are shortened full rifles like the CAR-15, G-36C, SIGG 556C and I might as well put in a Mauser K98 K (Karabiner[Carbine] 98 Kurz[Short].
Now to get to my main point. As stated by many other more intelligent people: THERE WAS NO FNH P90 IN B:BC2

You my friend, are a tool, they are showing all weapons expected to be in BF3, and a lot of them were also in BF Bad Company 2. Common sense is needed I see to check out new games.
YEAH! the p90, M4, a-91, and Mp7 were all BFBC2 RIGHT? LOL. AK74U and M4 aren’t even submachine guns, but in the beta they were under the carbine class. This isn’t even the full list, there were 5+ more SMGs and PDWs in the beta, and none of them were from BFBC2. So Yeah. Just thought you guys should know
I know right damn i hope theres download able guns that u can buy i love the sub machine guns and most of them are the same also the LMGS look the exact im still stoaked for the game i just hope the m40s in the game like it was in the beta look at the snipers and its not there

Seriously, this is like the same thing that was with AEK 971 and M16A2. AEK is not used by Russian army at all, and M16A2 is pretty old for a modern timed game. Why can’t you just google some information and order stuff? Its like giving the Russian Army an AK47 and Flectarn camo for soldiers like they did in COD MW2, wich is bullsh*t.
The reason the FN Scar L is specialist it because at the moment Americas forces only use it in specialists groups such as rangers or possibly seals. It still probably woundnt be used with a silencer though thats just because all guns from that class get them.
Seals don’t realy use it much at present the ump is prefered, at least thats what some of my freinds who are seals say.

no one uses the scar anymore, the rangers found it lacking and wh\ent back to the m4. No one really uses smg’s either, why issue an smg when you can use a short assault rifle?
SMG’s are for CQB, because assault rifles might accidentally penetrate a wall and kill civillians or something.
Marine Marksmen are known to also use the Scar-H instead of M-14s and M-16s.

The FN (company from Belgium) manufactures the SCAR assault rifle in ‘L’ and ‘H’
You can see it is ‘Light’ and ‘Heavy’
which is fairly easy to distinguish between both because:
‘L’ is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge
‘H’ is chambered for the 7.62 NATO cartridge.
Imagine the SCAR-L as an upgraded revamped M4A1 carbine (they both fire the same round). Light, and very, very fast. It is designated as the Mk.16 within the US armed forces. (SPECIFIC BRANCHES ONLY, exmpl: US. Amry Rangers)
The SCAR-H is the big brother of the SCAR-L. It fires a much bigger, longer, harder hitting round which packs a bigger punch compared to the 5.56 cartridge. It grants better stopping power, and range to boot. It is designated as the Mk.17.

SCAR L holds 5.56 and SCAR H is 7.62 both are NATO standard cartridges.

hey buddy by the way you do know that the m16a2 has been upgraded and redesigned alot and is still used by the US Marines today and the m16a2 today looks a lot different and performs a lot better than when it started
They did upgrade the M16A2…. to the M16A4. So its not really an M16A2 anymore, but it is improved.
Well really the reason why they made it the m16a2 is because theres two types of AR-15′s, A2 variants and Flat Top variants. hence M16 A2
There are 2 main types of scar, the scar-L, and the scar-H. The L is a sort of lighter version of the H, so they may have decided to put it there, it was there in BBC1

They will probably include some proper carbines, eg: M4/16 as these are used by some SEAL teams or at least they should as I have wanted carbines in a game other than dragon rising.

Needs the P90. My favorite weapon, also a very powerful SMG/PDW with it’s 5.7 caliber round used in the FN Five-Seven. Also, why no MP5?

The AKS-74U is NOT an SMG…
Compare it to the M4 carbine, IT’S A CARBINE D:
M16 = 5.56 x 45mm
M4 = 5.56 x 45mm
AK-74 = 5.45 x 39mm
AKS-74U = 5.45 x 39mm
‘S’ stands for ‘Skladnoy’, translating to ‘FOLDING’
‘U’ stands for ‘Ukorochenniy’, translating to ‘SHORT’
Just to clear things up, the universal meaning for SMG means the weapon is supposed to be chambered for a ‘pistol’ cartridge. (Although some firearms companies like Colt and Zastava(Serbia) insist on calling their carbines ‘SMG’s’ despite them firing full-sized ‘rifle’ cartridges)
It’s kinda funny, how the AKS is used more as an assault rifle/AK-47 alternative than an SMG/PDW, yet every game has it being used as an SMG.

I played the beta, and in the beta it was in the carbine class (as well as the M4), not the SMG/PDW class.
I would like to see a FN P90
S.C.A.R. = SoF Combat Assault Rifle.. Why does this gun keep getting lumped in with SMGs??? It’s the SOCOM replacement to the M16. I’d also like to see them bring the G36 assault series back to the games.. The G36C was one of my favorite guns from BF2
