Battlefield 3 recon
The Recon in Battlefield 3 is the sniper class — well suited for long range combat with an assortment of sniper rifles, both bolt action and semi automatic ones. But that doesn’t mean the recon class is limited ot long range in battlefield 3, as the recon can use a variety of weapons, such as SMGs and shotguns for close quarter combat. In addition, the recon plays an important team role in Battlefield 3, where recons can set up a spawn point, motion sensor, and more. The recon starts out with two main sniper rifles: the MK11 for the US, and the SVD for the Russians.

Recon tips

While the recon is best suited at long ranges with a sniper rifle, it doesn’t mean it’s limited to that role. You can equip a semi automatic sniper rifle with less powerful scope (like a 4X), which would make you very useful at medium and close ranges. Furthermore, you can help your squad by placing a mobile spawn point close to the action, and you can deploy a motion sensor that detects nearby enemies.

Why does it seem that recon is going to almost be less team oriented, it’s gadgets aren’t really that helpful to a team? Losing mortars and motion sensors and gave it to support and engineer. The MAV would probably work well here seeing as it’s used for Recon….

personally i think support should have the mobile spawn point and recon should get both c4 and clays….seems a bit silly a sniper getting something to promote teamplay when really a sniper/recon just will sit back and snipe….

Add. me. PS3. But yea i agree, with D34P00L Im still trying to unlock goodies but what happen to claymores and the sniper really doesnt need spawn point. I use it cuz i have it but When i play im not in the action im mostly away, depending on the map. But then again i can just switch to support or assault if the map calls for it…

Anyway is there a tutorial for the gunship/jet lol i suck. But am a tank king.

I think they shouldn’t be equipped with claymores and C-4 cause that would just promote sniping.

They should really give snipers another gadget, like allow them to use motors cause that is something where you’d be out of the battle zone anyway and thats what snipers generally do, giving it to supports who are usually constantly in battle seems to be a bad choice they’d barely use it in my opinion, they’d use their C4 and claymores more i feel

They should give motars to recon i feel, supports already have loads of good stuff, Recon in my opinion is the hardest not only to get kills but to get points in the game cause spotting enemies through MAV doesn’t really earn you that much when you help your team. Recons are meant to be “behind the lines support” (using MAV and such) to help out the team. Having a motor to support your team in an offensive way would be something good i feel for the Recon. Support Class would still be damn powerful even without motors

nah this ain’t call of duty. As a sniper, if you’re stationed on a rock on Caspian Border, where would you plan to place the claymore exactly? and plus snipers should always be changing their positions and the maps are huge not narrow passages and alleyways like in call of duty games. Claymores are no good for snipers in this game.

@ DMMZ snipers tent te stay a half mile away from the sction and fire 2-3 shots before moving, some who plan on staying in situ for a few days do deply claymores but in reality they are not really deployed by them. we rely more on our spotter (snipers work in pairs) with an assalut rifle. also (for brits at liest) our sniper rifle is our secondary armament. our main weapon is an L85A2.

I really hope they increase the damage rate on sniper rifles , no one goes down in 1 shot or even 2 for that matter. snipers are high calibur weapons that can rip limbs apart THEY SHOULD KILL 1 SHOT !! At least the bolt actions should kill 1 shot, the semi-auto’s 2 seems fine cause other wise it would be over powered. but they seriously should increase the bolt action damage rate to 1 shot kill

They also took distance/angle into account in this game. So if the bullet has to travel up and then back down it will do less damage. But if you fire from a higher position less energy is used to get the bullet there i.e. More damage. And if you standing right next to the person chances are you are gonna kill him one shot.

      Hi,

They do die in one shot as long as you hit them in the head. The reason they dont die on a body shot is cos the enemy wear bullet proof vests – so here you need 2 shots – otherwise it would be to easy…

Bolt action. Should not be one shot. Do you realize how challenging it would be if that were so ?? Besides, if you hit someone in the face or neck region, will kill them. So aim higher bro.

Snipers though in general are 1 hit kills when its a chest shot. It should be acceptable i feel, i mean i doubt EVERYONE would go Recon just cause some of the snipers are one hit kills cause snipers are STILL at a disadvantage if they are changing locations or if they are moving to a certain location of choice, if they come upon a battle the chances of them winning that battle is small to be honest . Plus Recon doesn’t get that many points at all cause they don’t kill as much as the other classes would, and giving out information to your team doesn’t earn them much points either. Thats why i feel they should increase the damage rate so they are on par with the other classes when it comes to kills as well as points. the gadgets they have would only help if the team actually paid attention or if you are playing with friends and they have formed strategy of how to play out the match. otherwise most of the gadgets are useless. there are no offensive ones at all. Recon is still not a bad class but it is definitely the hardest in terms of getting kills/points/ leveling up.

It’s hard to get the points from spotting and recon’s are too far out to collect points for flag captures and M-Com destroys/disarms, took my recon in a few rush matches with a shotgun, levelled up much faster.

Your complaining about how many points you get as a sniper… Here is how you fix that. Get head shots. Not only do you get the points for the kill it also adds in the yardage from the head shot as long as its like past 60m.

Actually you do get one shot kills with the sniper at any range with a headshot and depending on how far lets say 300+ meters you’re gonna get point equivelant to four kills each time with the marksman bonus so the game is good where it is at. If you dont get a headshot then Two shots will usually get you a kill but the trick is you gotta hit them. I usually get aroundo 20 kills in a game as recon so saying that you don’t as many kills is incorrect you gotta try and not suck so hard at the game.

You realize that you can also equip the UMP and any other “All Classes” gun as Recon and use it? For example, I’m using the UMP-45 with the IR scope and I have Squad Ammo Specialization equipped, and I’m easily able to rack up the kills that way…

Oh, and the T-UGS is helpful, but I think its bugged; no matter what I do, I can never get the ribbon for “Motion Sensor Assists” even though I once had 18 sensor assists in Metro.

Also wish to point out that the SOFLAM units laser can be seen from really far away, so don’t man it for long; place in a place with a good overview of the battlefield, and run like hell.

I am good now with the sniping after i unlocked the M98B , that plus straight bolt is golden, i get so many kills now. I guess it does depend on the place where you hit them. i started aiming a bit above the chest and i sometimes get 1 hit kills, i am assuming they made it a vital spot equivalent to a head shot. but yeah Recon seems good when it comes to snipers. Though i still feel they should invent a new gadget or give something else to the recon gadget wise. i was thinking something like either allow clamores or motors to be used by Recon as well or bring an entirely new gadget to the class. Any ideas what kind of stuff would fit will we Recon?

Mk 11 uses the 7.62 round which is standard for the AK-47, the M16 uses the 5.56 NATO round which is slow but more damaging as it does not create a channel wound. (channel wound is where the bullet goes in and out the other side, leaving a long hole). The 5.56 get’s stuck inside the body, meaning that every movement causes more damage because your moving the bullet around inside you, therefore you need medical attention alot sooner. Although they use the 7.62 because it can shoot through an engine block at an effective range of 1000m, unlike the slow 5.56 NATO which is effective at 400m. Hope this helped.
