Theirs 1 high powered sniper M98b but It doesent seem high powered Compared to all the other battle field snipers. Battle field Bad company 2 however had more snipers! Their has to be more snipers than this come on dice.

Modern rifles chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum are used in Afghanistan at this very moment. They have many confirmed kills well, well beyond 1200 meters. The .338 Lapua’s documented ceiling is around 2500 yards. FYI…

Ps. The current all-time record for the longest range of a confirmed kill is roughly 2,475 meters, and it was set using the .338 cartridge in Afghanistan.

Sadly what I theorize they meant by that was all the guns(easy) the all attachments for each one( semi time consuming but easy), then the class and weapon specific medals. For instance each class has a medal stating ” play X class for 50 hours”. So its not 100 hrs to unlock unique weapons for the class.

Don’t mean to spoil any of the campaign here but here it goes:

Does anyone else feel like the m98b used in the single player (in the villa) was stronger and more of a proper m98 than the one you unlock in multiplayer? I noticed that the wide barrel-nose , a unique characteristic of the barrett class rifles, is present on the beefier singleplayer m98b, but not on the multiplayer version of the rifle? Needless to say I’m disappointed, because the singleplayer version of the rifle is soo satisfying. Can anyone elaborate?

Actually in the campaign you use a one-off M82A1 (you know the one in CoD). It is semi automatic and uses .50 Calibre rounds, as opposed to the M98 Bravo which is bolt-action single-shot and uses .338 Lapua Magnum rounds. Two completely different guns, only similarity being that they are both made by Barret.

would you say the M98B is strongest sniper damage wise (despite it being bolt action) ? cause in the description it praises its damage so would that mean a 1 shot kill if the enemy is hit in the body? I am trying to find a sniper thats most effective damage wise cause seems like the snipers don’t kill within the first shot at all, most likely cause all the enemies are wearing flak jackets but still i think a sniper bullet should go clean through a flak jacket in my opinion. But yeah would you guys say M98B is stronger then the rest of the snipers damage wise?

Yeah, none of the snipers are 1 hit kills except for headshots. At range the stronger snipers will do 55-75 for body shots and like 30-40 for shooting feet. But I personally am loving this gun. It has crazy range and is super accurate and has top damage. When I first got it I was losing in sniper duels cause I was aiming for bullet drag when I didn’t need to. I can’t wait to see how this guy does with IRV.

You need to think balance in multiplayer. A 1 Body shot rifle would leave most players playing as the recon class siting 800+ meter away and taking people out! (That would be Very annoying ) instead if you body shot someone with the M98B it will leave them with about 15% – 25% and Massive suppression blur leaving them quite vulnerable to being picked of be other CQC classes and then bring on the 120pts for kill assist and suppression assist. Thats 1 of the reasons why the M98B .338 cal rifle is in the game and not the M95 .50Cal (Going for realism .50cal would sever limbs and kill anything 1 hit)
I like how BF3 Rewards snipers for killing enemys 1 shot to the head and then getting 1pt per meter form distance fired. M98B is best weapon on battlefield 3 for sniping, but it does take time to get used to as the bullet is harder to track and the drop is almost half that compered to the SV98 and M40A5.

657 Head shots and counting – longest Head shot 729m :)

I’m having a pretty hard time getting over the lack of power in the M98B… That kind of round would literally blow targets’ appendages off at 1000 meters. I honestly feel one center mass shot should do the trick. Given it’s the last recon firearm unlocked, it should be a one shot one kill affair with the M98. Thoughts?

I personally love that Sniper Rifle’s can’t kill an enemy in one body shot. Even if the M98B could do that in reality, you have to keep balance in mind. Not only that, but with this system in place, making the only one shot kill with a Sniper Rifle a headshot and rewarding the player for doing such, it makes Sniping in the game much more difficult, as you actually have to have skill to snipe. That factor not only reduces the amount of Snipers, but it ensures that those who do snipe all the time actually have the skill to do it. I have to praise Dice for how they set that up.

The Effective range: 1200+ meters is complete bullshit in BF3. The bullet dissappears after 975m on M98B, around 800m on SV98.

Yeah, I think the PC version has a much higher ceiling for effective range, thus a lot of confusion accompanies the intersystem variability. I have a 975 m on PS3 and dozens of 974s, but after 0 hits from at least a thousand rounds placed not far beyond that… I’m starting to believe that’s the current PS3 cap. If anyone has scored headshots beyond 975 with the latest update on PS3 I’d be quite interested to hear about it. Take care guys

Agreeing with tZZZuKKa on the disapering of bullets or more like stopping in mid air. We tried killing eachoter off with the m39 and and the svd and found that the m39 just stops at around 800 meters. you see the bullet hit within that range but not any further. If you trie to aim further then you will actualy hear the bullet hit infront off you. Like someone is aiming at something else. When it says 1200+ it basicly means you can hit targets beyond 1200 meters. It doesnt mean you can actualy see them with a scope. I Think it’s smart it was designed that way. Otherwise a lot of people would be compensating for the bulletdrop and using semi automatic guns instead of bolt.

damage on M98B is good only thing that I dont agree with is the no kill bonus with a body shot. Takes away the point of even shooting at moving targets at large distances 500+ which should be an advantage of using a sniper rifle, and should get rewarded for making two hits on a target at that range. Only balance issue I have a problem with…

I do find the lack of ability to do one shot kills (at least to the center mass) a little disappointing on the M98B. Especially being supposedly the most powerful sniper rifle in the game and how hard it is to unlock it. I understand the need to balance the game, but a little more realism wouldn’t hurt either. For people who spends this much effort to unlock the gun, they should be rewarded accordingly. The only thing I find the gun to be better than the M40A5 is slightly less drop at distance. It does feel more accurate at shorter range also. On the down side, it only has 5 rds mag and reload is slower.

Your Technical stats are wrong the magazine holds 5 rounds and not 10.
I would rate the GOL in BFBC2 a 10/10 the M95 9/10 the M98B from BF3 gets an 8/10 not complaining but its is slightly underpowered to be the most powerful sniper rifle in the game. It does give one shot kills at an average distance(without supressor) but at greater distances it does not.
Im a die hard sniper, incase you have not unlocked it play with me you can kill me and give it a shot see if its worth unlocking.

Die hard sniper!? I hardly think so with a longest head shot of 372m!? You’re clearly not as die hard as you think matey.

For those of you whining about m98b not being a one shot kill, learn to shoot to the head. And as a bonus i`ll give you few tips to do that, only shoot what you can kill, meaning that if you see enemy moving alot and you`re not able to predict his next move just be patient, wait till he stops and then shoot. Sure you can try shooting him in the body and easily hit him but even if that kills him (he wasn`t 100%health) you wont get marksman bonus. Another tip 12x scope has mildots (well not actually dots but horizontal lines, don`t know what they are called) for reason, use them for m98b the first one is for 500m and for sv98 and m40 the first one is for 300m. Hope this helped, well actually I don`t give a shit if it helped or not, atleast I`ll be able to kill you easier when you can`t shoot shit.
