Battlefield 3 heavy barrel
The heavy barrel is an unlock in Battlefield 3 which can be applied to most assault rifles and carbines. The heavy barrel increases long-range accuracy, but adds more recoil and less handling when fired on full auto, especially at close ranges.

I dont get it? “Increases accuracy at long range but increases recoil”?
Isn’t the purpose of this to decrease recoil over range? Someone explain please?

If I’m not mistaken the heavy barrel helps ensure the bullet will hit what you exactly where the + is instead of a little to the side; but the recoil is more which means you will have to re-target your enemy after the shot…

So after your shoot the cross hair probably won’t fall back exactly where it was… I haven’t noticed that its made a huge difference either way.

Ballistic tip rounds would have been a better upgrade.

uhhh no, facts are, a heavier weapon has less recoil just due to the added weight absorbing the shock.

a heavier barrel will only give you better sustained accuracy with consistent shots, which should keep a more consistent pattern while firing, long range or not.

this is nothing but typical hollywood bullshit with games, they refuse to get their facts right by actually spending time at the range and firing REAL weapons

and the picture is not one of a heavy barrel either, for heavier barrels rarely have anything toher than a perfectly clean carrel with no dips.

perfect example is to look at the lighter barrel on the m4 style barrels for the carbine variants of ar-15′s

Heavy guns have less recoil is such a wrong blanket comment. Recoil is so dependent on fire mechanism, caliber, and how the gun is held. Not all guns are designed to keep their well calibrated recoil down after the addition of a long and heavy barrel. While the increased recoil does not make sense on all guns, it does make sense on enough, and regardless is a balancing decision.

people. dont you read carefully ?

“but adds more recoil and less handling when fired on full auto”

Heavy barrel is for precision shoot, it give more stability for the bullet but more feedback force on the shooter. That’s why the handling decrease when you shoot on rafal.

People don’t get mad about the real life physics. The barrel ads accuracy and increases recoil, its not about real life its about balancing the game. This way it makes you choose to have one stat better, but you must sacrifice another. It keeps the game balanced so the weapons don’t get overpowered. I use this on maps that require range and sometimes just leave it on anyway. Add the foregrip and it helps a lot too

Well then, they shouldn’t call this upgrade Heavy Barrel. Maybe they shouldn’t even say the game includes modern technology, but rather fantasy upgrades that automagically work whatever way they want it to work in their own fantasy game.

Ffs people yeh we know that a heavy barrel doesnt actually make a gun have more recoil irl but they put it in like that to balance the game. If it didnt increase recoil then there would be no reason not to use it and so, everyone would use it. Stop winging about how its not real u would hate the game more otherwise.

It keeps mentioning “heavy match ammo” — maybe the “heavy” isn’t referring to the weight of the barrel but instead to being able to load more gunpowder into the rounds because the barrel can withstand the extra heat?

I think IRL it would be like the hk416 which is chambered for 5.56mm, as opposed to the “heavy barrel” hk417 which is basically (I say basically because there are some other things setting them apart) the same gun only chambered for 7.62mm and is used as a DMR. Now this is probably not 100% correct info, but it’s the gist of it.

With the new patch it doesn’t increase recoil but decreases hip fire accuracy, it’s my go to attachment now.

heavy barrel would be better for single shot in a hardcore match where you can kill your opponent with few shots at a good distance
