BF3 destruction
With the release of the new trailer for Battlefield 3 DLC Close Quarters, half a dozen screenshots were released as well. One screenshot in particular stands out, showing before and after images of the new “destruction HD”.

Get the screenshots while you can, EA and DICE could still claim a copyright infringement against BF3Blog, like they did yesterday.

These are the first pieces of media that has peaked my interest. Not sure if I’m actually going to spend the money yet. But I definately like the screen shots. I just hope they don’t want to charge too much for this map pack. I have this feeling it’s going to be overpriced.

I don’t like what they’re doing. Not by a mile. But if we are going to be given a shit sandwich; it’s still a Battlefield shit sandwich. It’s not going to be very good most likely, but you never really know. It might turn out decent, but it’s too soon to be 100% sure.

If you do 16-24 Conquest Battlefield (Consoles basically), then these Maps might possibly work for you. For PC however? No. Not a chance. You can’t fit 32 Players in that, never mind 64. In other words for 90%+ of the PC crowd its an automatic pass. For the Console Crowd, well, they’re small Maps even for Console Conquest from what I’ve seen. I seriously don’t see what people see in this. Battlefield is known for its wide open Environments, not this Deathmatch crap. If I want to play Indoors I’ll go CoD 4 or Quake 3. If I want to play in wide (outdoor) sprawling Environments, I’m going to go load up Battlefield.

And yeah, size matters. Size obviously matters. No matter which way you look at it you can’t fit a 64-Player Conquest Match into that tiny enclosure. Or even a 32-Player Match. So yeah, size matters. Duh, it matters.

Thats like saying if apple released a new ipod next week and buying it likes its going somewhere, crap is crap plain and simple.I like the idea of putting all the Fraging 13 yr olds and 40yr old failures on these map to filter out the bad players from the good, i support close quarters, I wonder what games come out with some real Dlc like Skyrim and Fallout which would actually change the gameplay and add some decent features instead recycled maps and canceled weapons they found in the game’s pre-alpha for a quick buck so half the company doesn’t get fired from their publishers(or should i say Masters). I know I’m posting this kind of late, but better late than never right?

Looking at some question & answers that was done with DICE awhile back during BF3 development, DICE stated that they designed BF2 in a “play our way or don’t play at all” way. They (DICE) said that BF3 was to remove that “our way or the highway” style of game play.

My point being is that looking from DICE’s perspective; they are trying to appeal to a broader player base, instead of appealing to only a certain section of the player base, which is presumably one of the main reasons why DICE made some DLC that’s not what we are really used to in the Battlefield series.

Do I support what DICE is doing? Not one bit. I want old Battlefield back. But the unfortunate truth is; DICE is appealing to masses, and the people who enjoy the original Battlefield game play are no longer the masses.

No, with all jokes aside, this DLC looks promising for both the CoD fans and the new BF fans. It’ll spice things up, and hopefully make it a worthwhile download. And it’s multiple stories on the only map we’ve seen, so it’s going to be a complete frenzy.

I enjoy small maps as much as I enjoy big ones but I don’t like CoD because of the arcade feeling of it, so I welcome this. We are getting another DLC with HUGE maps for more veteran players, so what’s the problem?

Yeah Jakt, you are speculating about the game modes but kind of poorly since they’ve already said this map would be used for conquest also. They happened to mention that there would be at least one new mode of play for the maps as well. Not sure what it might be but you can bet it’s something that will utilize the maps small sizes and CQB style of play. As for the conquest mode on this map they have also already stated that it would be much larger. Perhaps the whole building? That’s how you speculate by the way ;)

Big thanks to the hot pocket eaters on the consoles for being such a large demographic that EA couldn’t resist cannibalizing another great franchise and throwing the PC version out the window with this peashooter deathmatch crap. Not even one medium sized map, no, they are all tiny because thats what fits within console performance constraints and so it was easier to develop them.

I’ve been reading some of your comments about how BF3 is becoming like Call of Duty. I’ve been obsessed with Battlefield for about a month now. I was a die hard CoD fan. I do not know much info about Battlefield and DICE and EA and all of that stuff, I’m just a regular player who plays, so please don’t bag on me for going against you.

I think you guys are forgetting about the weapons, equipment, and all of the gameplay differences between the two. Yeah, maybe the map is looking a little Call of Dutyish but Battlefield’s gameplay is way different than CoD’s. I honestly have no clue on how you can say Battlefield is transitioning into a Call of Duty like series. I don’t know if I’m just not fully aware of all the previous deiscussions, etc. If I’m missing alot, please fill me in.

meh, you can’t reasonably blame EA and think DICE is somehow innocent and make no mistakes. There’s simply no clear line where DICE ends and EA begins. It’s just plain fanboyism to slobber all over DICE while using EA as a scapegoat. I’m not a fan of EA, but I think DICE fans need to accept that the company has intentionally done things with the company and game design that can’t be put onto other people’s shoulders.

And it is, btw, exactly what EA/DICE want you to do: blame EA and think DICE are victims or purists or on the consumer’s side. EA is sitting there rubbing their hands together because every time you blame EA and let their DICE off the hook, in the end you’re still feeding them both your money; you’re defense of DICE just reinforces EA’s business model for take overs and encourages more developers to seek big publishers. It gives them “an out”.

I swear, there is no other industry where the consumers so blindly defends companies even when the companies are to blame for mistakes. Brand loyalty is nothing more than being a walking talking free advertiser for them.

I’m a huge DICE fan. I’ve been playing their games since BF2. And I’ve hated EA for a very long time. But I’ll never blindly blame a publisher just because their name is attached to a project. Demand more from DICE and you’ll get more. Continue to think it’s just EA’s problem and it won’t change.

Most of the other tards that talk about goin back to cod are the guys who may be the bf vets/purists. Bf used to be about teamwork. Now that DICE wants a piece of cod, they r making dumb ass small maps to get all the lone wolf, cos players to buy their game.

I play on console so these small maps wont have that much of an impact on max players. But for the pc guys who aren’t used to the small amount of soldiers in a game, this is pointless for them.

Fun Police gets it. 90%+ of the PC crowd do 32/64 Player Conquest (myself included of course). Not even 24, never mind 16, so this is an automatic pass for nearly all of us. These are seriously not Battlefield Maps. They’re aimed at the crowd who plays small enclosed Maps specifically, mostly CoD Players in other words, or people who like CoD-style Maps, something which Battlefield does not feature. Its not even a question of “Consolification” as some people are saying, as even Consoles can go to 24 Players while these are stuck on 16. They take small to “beyond small.”

Its probably like YNFP says below, Micro-Destruction, but they chose to call it “HD” Destruction instead. Either way, I doubt we’ll be seeing the BC2 Destruction 2.0 stuff on here, like YNFP points out, a Wall makes a huge difference. Especially in such an encased Environment. If RPGs/Grenades could blow right through the entire Map it would be completely flat in a matter of minutes.

The “HD destruction” is basically improved micro destruction from the looks of it. People need to keep in mind that structures play a huge part in game play balance on maps. Something as small as a wall being placed could give one side a HUGE advantage over the other.

Micro destruction like this allows for a more destructible environment without destroying objects or structures that play a key role in map balance.

Thats not what 90% of people signed up for when they saw BF3 advertised as “Unrivaled Destruction”. I remember devs saying that basically every building would be collapsable… now we are fighting entirely inside one of these buildings and the walls aren’t even collapsable…

I don’t see the point in paying for this, paying $15 for 4 small-ass maps sounds all too familiar, even if there are a few flashy weapons in there too.

Random question/observation. Look at the trailer and pause at 31 seconds and at 51 seconds.

31-is the guy actually using the wall as cover with his back against it?

51-is the 2 guys on the right tackling as a kill?

Sorry…..I watched it on my phone and don’t know if its just me or what

Game play developers really like to ham up their trailers, especially DICE. They even changed out the sound of a Glock to a 44. magnum to give the trailer some more oomph.

The animations of the soldiers taking cover behind a wall is most likely animated in to make the trailer cooler. But for all I know, it could be a new feature…but I personally doubt it. If DICE was trying to advertise a new feature like this, they would most likely put the soldier in a first person view taking cover like that instead of in a third person view; similar to how they ‘presented’ the knife kill animations in the development stages of BF3.

Building on what YFNP says here again, don’t look too much into it. Look at how they advertised the “drag teammates away from harm” thing in the beginning, turned out you could only use that in 1(?) point in the entire Campaign, and never in the Multi-Player, so yeah.

There’s barely enough gameplay footage on this shit to even quarter-way judge anything.
Yeah, sure, clusterfuck, attracting Cowadoody clowns, milking and all that OBVIOUSLY INEVITABLE shit when you’re working with itsy bitsy tiny maps and on top of that, DICE taking it up their hemmoroid-filled swollen, hairy, wrinled ass from Electronic Assholes’ rectum-ripping, fanboy-milking razor-sharp, rusty metal, spiked strap-on dildos.
Just wait ‘ntil there’s more gameplay to be seen.
And hey, the patch is on it’s way. I personally don’t give a flying fuck about CQ, as I’m hyped for the patch, Armored Kill and End Game(dinosaursplz)

wow thanks for speaking for the whole community on pc.. didn’t know we had someone to speak for the all of us * sarcasm off*

either like it or don’t decide with your money personally i like it because its a nice change from the big battlefields and people saying its nothing to do with battlefield you are wrong though this is smaller areas like this are the modern day battlefields often enough (though they are then in the form of compounds like in Iraq and Afghanistan) so not all battlefields are big but its going to be fun i think

Look. It’s still going to be Battlefield. Don’t hate on an idea that other “coughs” CALL OF DUTY “coughs” games have failed at. Give it a chance. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it (although you’ll miss out on the guns ;) ). I believe it’s going to be 10 minute periods of my blood pumping faster than an m16a4 can shoot, and I can’t wait for it. Also I hope they patch the usas.. it would make this muuuuuch less enjoyable :(

I dont quite understand why would DICE make small maps and call them “close quarters”, truly it should be strike at karkand close quarters style not counter strike, cod style. Besides with such a small map the only possible mode to play would be tdm, where it lies another point, why not make firestorm, caspian border size maps with many close quarter seccions, so that it would be playable on all modes and not just tmd.

Imo they should have just scraped that whole Close Quarters crap and make snow maps instead with dense blizzard with snowmobiles. Not too intense though cuz recons won’t see shit with their snipers. Oh well.
