BF3 minimap
Finally, the long awaited PC patch has received a release date: tomorrow, March 29. The patch will include all the fixes we mentioned earlier (see full change log), including the updated mini map, which you can see above. The patch will be around 1.6 GB.

In addition to the updates, PC players will be getting the “Shortcut Items” as well, where players can purchase unlocks instead of having to play to get them.

I don’t like the idea of people being able to purchase weapons. I don’t thinks its fair to all of those who have unlocked those same weapons through playing the game. So let me get this right EA is selling hacks for their own game. I think its lame.

if you can’t unlock the weapons the right way its a hack it changes the way the game was intended to be, or we all would have been able to do this from day one. I guess if EA can’t beat the hackers EA joins them.

who cares … you need like 300 kills to unlock all for a weapon .. thats 10-15 games. Sure it takes few days to unlock all weapons but it`s the motivation part of this game .. so if someone is stupid enought to waste money it is his problem .. let them waste even more to become level 50 or so … they`re not gonna be better player and all the better weapons are in the fact available form the start or easilly unlockable via CO-OP

I’m not saying I don’t agree with you that the buying weapons thing ruins the point of unlocks, but this is NOT a hack by any means what-so-ever.

If DICE or EA want to change BF3, then they can. Is it considered hacking if they do? Simply put; no. It’s their game, they developed it, they can change it as they please.

Claiming that EA/DICE is hacking their own game by implementing a new feature is like saying DICE hacks BF3 every time they implement a patch.

If hackers found some way to unlock weapons; then they would be doing it by HACKING the game, which involves blatant rule breaking by modifying game code.

          @ laan,
Not a big deal but it’s 500 kills, also I think it is more important to see that a lot of people can’t use weapons properly because they don’t play with them. When in a situation you have to pick up the kit from someone else because you’re out of bullets then if you haven’t played with it you might not know how to fire it to be effective. That will hurt the team and gets the player killed.
I also agree that it is fun to try out new guns, new setups that could be better suited to one’s playstyle.
I for one usually slap on a silencer to ninja flank my way into the back of groups of enemies or cap a flag but I also tried out the heavy barrel and just took potshots (successfully) from medium to long range with the an94 in a lot of games.
I would not use it but I get why some will although the worst guns will be fixed a bit in the patch which is now downloading.

          Uh, ok. Where to begin….
DLCs add content, they don’t give you Shortcuts to the top.
Patches fix the content that’s already there, bugs are unintended things, Patches make them go away.

But by all means, keep spitting out random bullshit for all I care.

I get that if you dont have time to play it sucks, but this is a hobby just like any other and it takes time. If you dont have enough interest to put time into it dont play it.

      I disagree.

I think this is a great DLC model. You pay with time or you pay with money. Not everybody has enough time to sink 100 hrs per kit into the game but really want to get the most out of the little time they do have to play BF3.

I really can’t wrap my mind around why people would have a problem with this model. They’re not hacks. Obviously. They are not even unfair advantages. Everybody has the opportunity to use these items, now they have 2 options on how to obtain them.

Maybe you’re just being a bit of an elitist because you do have 400 spare hours to sink into the game… not everybody does.

Look at it from the other perspective. Lets say “Person A” just bought the game, while “Person B” has all the unlocks paid in hours… “B” has lots of practice and more weapon options. That’s not fair for people just getting into the game. If we’re talking about fair play, which we are since you called them “hacks.” Person A should almost be limited because of all the acheivements they’ve completely. It should be working towards a more skilled guns and items, not better ones. But no, that doesnt work either, because unlocking items drives people to play more.

This really is the fairest way to do it imo. Pay in time or pay with money. (Other than removing unlocks altogether like good ole FPS’s, but like I said… unlocks drive ppl to play the game more)

I really dont care if someone is dumb enough to pay for the unlocks or not, what I have a problem with is this whole unfair to someone who hasnt played as much. Its not my fault I put the time in and got a better kit than you. You have to suck at first before you can start kicking ass. Thats how it is. So saying it makes it fair for everyone pisses me off. And thats whats wrong with society today, everything makes people soft. I say grow a pair and go through what everyone else had to.

The vehicle perk is the 1 that bothers me. That genuinely takes time to learn and master. Sure, I’m better than the noob that just got the game and bought all the vehicle perks, but that’s 1 thing that a person has an advantage over someone in a vehicle battle. O well. What’s done is done I guess. Im just glad the patch made the game enjoyable again. (Ps3 and the patch already…..its good) glad u pc guys can play a fun game again.

The problem that I (personally) have with it, is that its not a Free-to-Play Game. I paid 50 Euro, up front, and I got it from Origin. People who play Pay-Up-Front Games usually expect things you don’t expect from a Free-to-Play Game. For example, an equal playing field. You can’t play for 400 hours? Tough luck. Why should you have the right to Shortcut your way through every Unlock just because EA profits off of it? This isn’t Free-to-Play. The Weapons aren’t “Unlocked by sale exclusive.” Having a Level 1 with 0 Hours Played with all the Helicopter Unlocks is stupid. When do you think they’ll ever take the time to learn how to use it well? They have it all unlocked, so they think they know how to play it. More failures running around in decked out Gear. Just because EA profits.

Sorry, not OK. Would be different if this was Free-to-Play, but its not.

Guns are guns. People will always look for the 1most gun that does the most damage and stick with that. All I used at first was the m249. Stuck with that till no more unlocks for support. If the aek was the most powerful, least amount of recoil, alot of people would just stay with that. That’s y I have a problem with them being able to buy the vehicle upgrades. U can’t just hop in a viper and expect to own the sky.

That being said, if u pay $60 for the game and still cough up another $40. on new guns that are just given to you? I feel that your missing out on actually playing and learning the game. That’s half the fun of buying a new game

“…if u pay $60 for the game and still cough up another $40. on new guns that are just given to you? I feel that your missing out on actually playing and learning the game. That’s half the fun of buying a new game”

Indeed, Leveling up and seeing you unlocked something gives people a sense of reward. Grats, you just reached level 10. Your reward? A new weapon. You might use it, you might not. Remove that, you’re not leveling up for anything except another Stripe on your Battlelog page. Makes the game shallow.

Plus I seriously hate it when people get served everything on a Silver Platter, so there’s that.

Personally I play Sniper whenever I can, and I limit myself to Bolt-Action Rifles, as I’m not a fan of Semi-Automatics. I’m not much for if its US or Russian made, it can be Chinese or Swedish for all I care. I switch between them once in a while, but its harder with Battlefield 3 (least in the beginning) because of the Per-Weapon basis Unlocks.

I find it despicable too, but to be perfectly honest – outside the recon class – all the pros I’ve seen so far, play with the 1st available weapons anyway, as they are one of the most versatile and/or useful ones (M16A3, M4A1, 870MCS, M249, etc) and hold their own… so really whoever buys the ‘end-game’ weapons is a money-wasting n00b :D

I’m a bit conflicted about the update.

I keep hearing about the PS3 version of the game after the update and it sounds negative, IE… Tanks being blown up in one RPG or tank round to the front armor, Half the attachments now are worthless and/or make no sense on what they do.

I just hope it’s not as bad as it all sounds like.

But my hope for DICE/EA actually doing something good for this game is really low.

Yes, it’s true. After the patch, a tank gets blows away with ONE rpg. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I play on PS3. The game gets more reactive after turning off the AA-setting, but when you got hit by the enemy before(mostly of the time from behind), now they can aim for/shoot at you a lot faster than before. My advice will be: hide as much as you can. Be a sneaky bastard as much as you can. Because the camping is brought to a higher level with this patch. Prepare to die a whole lot more often than you are used to, because of stripping away waiting-times the game becomes more of a MW3-gameplay, fast-paced. Or maybe those shitheads are pushing their LAG-switches, again.

Playing on the PS3 after the patch, the “1 hit kill” sniper isn’t as common and easy as people think.

If you take in all the variables; sniper’s bullet spread is horrendous when they aren’t zoomed in. Even while they’re zoomed in, if they walk then they’re zoomed in; their bullet spread increases significantly until they stand still, then the cross hairs will become tighter again.

Because of this, if you cross into a recon’s 1 shot kill zone after the recon soldier came out of a sprint; by the time they zoom in, target you, and have their cross hairs re-tighten for an accurate shot you could easily fill them with enough lead to kill them before they can even pull the trigger.

Because aiming is a rare viable option for them when you’re in the “1-shot kill zone”, they have to point and shoot without zooming in. When they are forced in a situation like that; the farther away you are in the”1-shot kill zone” means the less chance that bullet is going to hit you simply because sniper rifle’s have TERRIBLE accuracy when they aren’t zoomed in.

So in conclusion; the chance of you getting hit by a bullet from a sniper rifle round fired in the 1-shot kill zone without being zoomed in is low because of the terrible accuracy while not zoomed in. The only way they have a 100% positive 1 shot kill at close range without a head shot is if their cross hairs are right on you when you’re in knifing range.

My point being that there are just simply many many variables to keep in mind, so it’s not as easy and common as people most people think.

…or if they hack. Thankfully, no-one hacks in BF3, right? *sigh*

Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen a hacker for quite a few days now. Only one suspicious guy who got 1 shot kills with p90 on my over and over again. Either the servers are doing a good job or Dice actually does something with that little triangle button message.

Meanwhile, my account got suspended 2 weeks, reason: my name ACEpr0faker was in violation of the TOS. lol.

Nah, I was playing on ps3 and this guy went 20 and 9 doing the “One Hit Sniper Kill” thing and he kept doing in every game we played until he left. He killed me 3 times before I could even shoot and I’m not a bad player and he wasn’t hacking I guess he was just a good shot.

I am pleased…. Very pleased. as for Paying for weapons…. eh. Seems fair. I unlock with time, others with money, I got my experience so no biggie. It’ll be interesting and more variety in the type of players i will meet in the battlefield. Now for that UI. I hope that Dice takes a look at what else needs to be “improved” and give PC gamers some special features that arent possible on console. (Though at this point they might be working on the next game already which is why not so many DLC and patches. I know they had a vacation, but the Playstation Orbis seems to be rumored to be released next year and The Xbox “Durango” as well. just saying, that maybe EA wants Dice to make a game for the release of the next gen consoles or at the least port BF3 into the next gen consoles too show great graphical power towards the console community!)

Funny. Last time I checked, real Battlefield players are the ones who are mature and don’t bash others who are playing the same title on different platforms.

Finally! I hope this patch does its job without causing more havoc.

As for paying for unlocking items: well, well; look who’s been stealing ideas from Valve…can anyone say TF2 rip off (okay TF2′s are called “item drops” but it’s primarily based on sheer gameplay time).

I’m sure some people don’t agree with me, and I can’t blame them..but in my opinion, Valve pulled it off pretty well.

Valve not only figured out how to maximize profit; they figure out how to do it without completely ruining the economy, without pissing players off, and they even made the game free to play increasing it’s life span exponentially.

My point is that Valve naturally wants to make profit; but they do it in a way that keeps the players happy.

EA on the other hand…well, I think you can see for yourself the type of stupid marketing techniques they’ve been pulling with BF3.

Cause TF2 didn’t sell super weapons/equipment thats only exclusive if you buy it.
I’m sure BF3 ain’t gonna sell a super sniper that’ll give an advantage to the ones who keep on buying.

“In addition to the updates, PC players will be getting the “Shortcut Items” as well, where players can purchase unlocks instead of having to play to get them. ”

Yeah, why play the actual game when you can just pay addition money to EA and get them.

This is utterly disgusting behavior. Another reason why EA has become my most Hated Publisher. They are ruining the industry without even realizing it.
