BF3 patchWe’ve been expecting a big Battlefield 3 patch in February, but according to DICE’s community manager Daniel Matros, the patch was never intended for release in February. When asked on Twitter where patch was, Matros responded by revealing that the date was apparently wrongly announced. Matros said:

“It was announced by someone who got the dates wrong”

A few more Twitter users inquired about the date, to which Matros responded “The date was never really correct anyway”.

There you have it guys, no patch this month. Hopefully we’ll see it sometime in early March, and hopefully with a bunch of changes. For more on the upcoming patch, check out our full rundown.

Thanks to our avid reader Implied for the tip!

Tell you what. Go do yourself a favour and go get BF2. I did it just last night. I admit I feared it wouldn’t hold up over time. But there’s no need to worry. BF2 is so much better it puts BF3 to shame.

      DICE should be embarrassed.

Yeah I was able to convince two other people who had also stopped playing BF3 to get BF2. I haven’t played it for years so it’s taking a bit of getting used to, but ya I’m loving it so far.

I’m still going to keep an eye out for BF3 news to see if they decide to restructure squads and add in Commander. But for now I’m just enjoying Karkand, Sharqi, Oman….in their glory, with proper chokepoints and great firefights.

I was worried about the answer to that question. The answer is very many. There are tons of servers at all times of the day and night for all map sizes. When you search for servers, the whole screen just fills up with servers all the time; it’s not even remotely an issue. There are just as many options for servers on BF2 as BF3.

And what I’ve noticed, which is what I was hoping to notice, SQUADS STICK TOGETHER TO ATTACK/DEFEND a common goal. Teamplay!!! Voice!! Useful support/medics who actually know to do their role.

So, lots of people still playing. Lots and lots.

Such a disappointment BF3 turned out to be. I’ve loved the whole series to date, but this game has just been let down after let down.

Was i expecting too much? I don’t think so… All i wanted was BF2 with modern graphics. Instead they gave me a sexchild of COD and Bad Company :(

Ever since DICE got involved with EA they have listened to their paychecks and not the community.

      Such a shame.

Good to see someone acknowledges that BF3 is basically a Bad Company 1/2 crossover with COD.

Every time I mention that and how the Bad Company was the slow decline to CoDisation, I get trolled for not being a ‘real BF fan’ and how ‘BC were the best BF games’. Uhh, no. The original BF games that actually were BF games… were the best BF games.

        Battlefield 3 isn’t BF2 having a child with BC2.
It’s BC2 having a child with COD to make some deformed child (gameplay), which they dress up in a diamond-studded suit (graphics) to disguise and distract from what they failed at, but could have easily done – making the greatest FPS of all time: Battlefield 3, a mixture of BF2 and their modern Frostbite engine.

Consider the (http://youtu.be/PFAkmkfcTfU?t=2s) of BF3 glitches and you have, as it has so appropriately been called, BugField 3, BETAField 3, BugFilled 3, BattleFAIL 3, BitchingForums 3, ForumField 3, the list goes on, all because of how they failed at their numerous promises.

I’m by no means trying to disagree with you. I do completely agree with your point, but I keep seeing a lot of people bash Badcompany, so I just wanted to make my own point:

Badcompany and Battlefield are two different series, with two different game play styles. Some people like Badcompany, some people like Battlefield, some people, as myself, enjoy both. You may not like Badcompany which is understandable because everyone has their own opinion, but it would be appreciated by the Badcompany players if you didn’t bash it. It’s fine to not like it or disagree with it, but blatantly bashing it can be a little offensive to some of its players.

I do agree that Battlefield and Badcompany should not be mixed like you said. They are two different series, and for a reason. Battlefield 3 feels like Badcompany 3 with 64 players with a CoD element to the game, and I was expecting an actual BF2 sequel.

Someone else was talking about playing BF2 again, and heck, I’m going to reinstall and play it. I’ll come back to another DICE game when they decide to make a REAL Battlefield sequel. (Sorry if this part was a little off-topic)

Serious question here. I keep seeing a lot of you long time fans of the series compare BF3 to CoD. I stopped playing Lag Ops over 6 months ago now and will confess to being one of those CoD crossover people some of the people around here seem to despise (for the record though I do PTFO which is why I left CoD, but that’s another story.)

While I agree there are some balancing issues with BF3 and some bugs that need to be fixed, I’m still enjoying the game. And, on the 360 at least, I’ve added more people to my friends list in a month than I’ve added in 2 years of playing CoD. Though you wouldn’t know it from reading any of the BF3 forums out there, the BF3 crowd I’ve come across while playing are a pretty cool bunch of people. Just saying this because I really like the game and feel the community needs to tighten up bit and drop the puerile nonsense. People that pride themselves on playing a game that encourages team work should probably work a little more at it when not actually playing the game. Just sayin’.

I digress. What is it about BF3 that is similar to CoD? What is this “CoD element” you’re all talking about. Because I don’t really see it but then again I was never all that into the CoD style of play anyway, I always played the objective, never gave a rats arse about my K/D; maybe that’s why I’m not seeing what you guys see…

Well, technically its full name is “Battlefield: Bad Company X” so it does have a connection to Battlefield. Technical Term would be a Spin-Off Series, which is why there’s so much comparison. If it was just “Bad Company” then people would say “Oh, DICE made a new IP, its based off of the Battlefield Formula, but its modified, its more Mainstream. Its a different approach.”

Since its a Spin-Off Series however, (and especially since its created by the creators of the Original Series too) it opens the door for the inevitable comparisons. Especially since BF3 seems to be borrowing a lot of Elements that they implemented in the BC Series.

Least with BC2 I didn’t have to deal with a Blue-Hue every time I wanted to play though >.> Its like, Blue Attack when it comes to BF3. What happened, had to cut back on the Color Palette to make up for cost of Visuals? >.< Could handle the "Gold Attack" with Deus Ex because it kind of merged into the background, but the Blue Hue the UI has just totally stands out. Annoying…. Random.

Personally got burnout with BC2 and BF2 atm, so trying to find something else to play, but so many FPSs been CoD-ified now. Even Crysis 2's MP is basically Call of Duty: Crysis.

AJ – CoDified when it comes to Battlefield usually refers to the Mainstreaming. Since you’re a Crossover, you most likely haven’t played the previous BF Games that we have, like BF2 for example. There, you moved as an entire Squad to Defend/Capture Objectives because we didn’t have a choice. In BF3, the “Lone Wolf” approach is doable, even though its not the best option. There’s also other Gameplay Elements which got messed with, like the lack of Commander (BF2/2142 feature). Squads are also smaller, they were 6-Player in BF2, now they’re 4.

Not to mention the Maps. Objectives, they’re completely squished together on some Maps, and this new “All-Maps-All-Game-Modes” Strategy means we’ve got Operation Metro Conquest which nobody seems to have ever tested before Launch (Map was designed for Rush after all….). Also, rather than being Objectives 5 maximum, BF2 Maps had 7 on all the big ones, sometimes even 8. Consoles could easily work 5 Objectives into their MP, with PCs chugging 7 for 64-Players. BF3′s carry-over broken version of the Killcam from BC is another joke too, but least we’ve got “Hardcore” Mode which deals with that >.>

The more “Mainstream” approach DICE has taken ever since the Bad Company Series has carried over to its “Main” Series now, and with EA all bragging about how BF3 was going to topple CoD (not to mention how they scheduled the Launch Date for 2 weeks before MW3 to jack some Sales from it), people call the game “CoDified”, I.E. – “Mainstreamed for the CoD Switchover Crowd” which in large part is made up of 9-10 year old kiddies who think MW3 is Godlike, which is why this ridiculous strategy by EA does nothing but piss the old crowd off and only attract a minimal amount of MW3 Sales.

People were really looking forward to BF3 after BC2 because of the more more Mainstream approach BC had. They figured “Oh, “Real” Sequel to BF2. I.E., Commander, Jets, 64 MP, 6-Player Squads, Mod Tools, etc.” Instead we got about half of that, and the (arguably) worse Post-Launch Support in their entire 10-year History. Unfortunately, seems between DICE being “pleased” (their words) with the final result of BF3, and EA breaking personal Week 1 Sales Records (5 Million Week 1 Sales) the CoDification is likely to continue, along with $150 Million Marketing Campaigns.

@ Implied: Thank you for clarifying that for me.

I guess I can see what you guys are talking about, but so far my experience in the game has been a pleasant one, and I’m talking as someone who was running from the CoD Kiddies for dear life. Sure, there’s been the USAS and MAV griefers but I’m pretty sure most of these guys are young adults in their 20′s rather than CoD kiddies.

I will admit there is not a whole lot of communication going on. I try to communicate but most of the time I end up talking to myself. BUT more often than not I’ve found myself in a sort of silent synch with my squad and team mates. Something you guys have to consider is that the CoD game environment was/is a verbally abusive one. Quite a few of the people coming from CoD turned off their mics a long time ago. It takes time to get over the trauma of playing CoD. And if any of those people check out some of the BF3 forums and see the animosity that seems to be prevalent amongst the community towards them the likely-hood that they’ll start communicating in game anytime soon is nil to zero.

I also feel the Lone Wolf thing is being used as a scapegoat. Another reason to whine, “ahhh, you’re not grouping up with the squad and getting slaughtered like the rest of us!” I’ve watched my entire squad attack the same well defended flag to no avail for 5 minutes or more plenty of times. It’s not until that “Lone Wolf” sneaks around back and caps a flag behind them that the stalemate can be broken. What I’m trying to say is Lone Wolf does not equate to not PTFO. What can you do if no one in your squad is communicating and everyone is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? You think outside the box, that’s what you do.

I’ve gone “Lone Wolf” before for the win and trust me it’s not doable without a team playing together, even if they don’t realize they are playing together.

Got into a Game of Conquest on Kharg Island late last night. Teams were half full on both sides. I spawned on the US camp and waited for my team mates for a sec before I ran off with the jeep. No one spawned, guess they were pratting about in the air vehicles or on the ship. I took the jeep to A, capped it by myself, took the jeep halfway to B scouted the area and then capped B by myself. Ran behind a rock, took out my MAV and scouted. Saw my team was fighting for D (guess they were going for the spawn trap, I dunno) so I spotted a bunch of enemy and then parked my MAV near C and went and capped that.

I spent the rest of the game hovering around C, defending it, more or less, by myself and sending out my MAV to spot enemy for my team. I helped them take back and defend A while I was still at C (in the buildings way behind it) with the MAV and also assisted in thwarting a few attacks on B with it. The enemy would try and take C, if it was 2 or 3 soldiers I’d spot them and move in for the kill, if they had a tank I’d let them take it and when they moved on I took it back. I also capped B a few more times during the game.

We won the game and yet I didn’t see or come into contact with one single squad member during the whole match, even after the game had filled up with players. According to many of you I was the quintessential lone wolf, but I still could not have won the game by myself. I finished the game 8 and 2 and ranked 4th on the entire team in score but the only thing that mattered to me was that we won.

IMHO, the lone wolf thing is BS, from what I’ve seen scores across the entire team at the end of most games are more or less even. You got the guy with 25 kills and 10 deaths (probably a sniper or chopper pilot) with the same score as the guy with 10 kills and 15 deaths (probably one of the guys capping the flags.) For the most part, everyone is contributing in a BF3 match. You RARELY see the outrageous kill streak scores you see in CoD in BF3, at least I don’t.

I think the BF3 vets need to lighten up a bit, all this hostility isn’t helping the community or the game. Sometimes, when I read these forums, I get CoD flashbacks.

For PC its mostly because there’s no In-Game Squad VoIP so unless you’re in a Clan with Vent/TeamSpeak the best alternative is Battlelog VoIP which isn’t really an alternative. Command Rose used to work great in BF2, but doesn’t seem like people are using it even 50% as much as people did in BF2. Well, lack of “Need Ammo” and “Need MedKit” to blame for a part of that too.

Still amazed at whatever idiot was put in charge of the Commo Rose Development and failed to realize two core aspects of it….. Not to mention whoever thought Squad Management would be better off as a Battlelog feature. /Facepalm.

For Consoles, like you said, most people got Mics off most likely (if they have any), plus PS3 had that VoIP Bug till recently too. Either way, they’ve made a lot of Development decisions that are just either stupid (PC VoIP/broken Commo) or just completely wtf.

By comparison again, BF2 was completely designed around Squads. I mean, it was like, going Lone Wolf would cripple you and your Squad, possibly your entire Team, because you moved as a Unit. In BF3 there’s more leniency on this, which a lot of people aren’t too happy about. It changes things, like the entire situation you described. Same situation in BF2; You’d typically find an entire Squad defending your Objective C, rather than you yourself. You’d also be assaulted by 1-2 Squads (depending on the amount of Players largely, 16/32/64), rather than 2-3 people.

Classes were also more interesting to play, but whole different discussion. In short, BF2 had an overall more interesting experience. BF3 has great Gameplay, awesome Graphics (Blue Hue apart), and its a nice crossing point for CoD Players, but for the “Veterans” it provides an inferior experience to what we’re used to. Its something of a mix of Bad Company and Battlefield 2, without quite managing to be the “true sequel” we promised, which has annoyed the old players waiting for this Game for years. If Battlefield 4 doesn’t make up, or hopefully the rumored upcoming 2143, the older players might end up sticking to the older Games, namely BF2/2142.

Alright let me say one thing first I have played every battlefield exept 2142 and I bet that when every one was released they were buggy as shit as well and the main reason bf2 is so good is because it has been out for countless years through many patches so all or most bugs have been fixed and also back then bf2 had less people staying up to facts about it not saying no one played it but how like on bf3 you have countless blogs keeping many people up to date for example I did not know bf2 had the 1.5 the last patch out for about half a year. So we should give dice some time to sort out their shit first before we give them heck about it and yes at this moment I play bf2 and bf3 and favor bf2 a bit more but I dont want to shade bf3 badly as in its current state it needs help… Long live the battlefield.

        Other things annoying as hell:

1.) Noshahr Canals Conquest- When the Americans dedicate the ENTIRE MATCH to stealing the Z-11w.

2.) Tehran Highway- When 4-6 people camp on the huge overpass

3.) Wake Island Conquest- The enimies can have literally ALL of the RU vehicals within the first 5 minutes of the match, thus ending it before it even begins

4.) Caspian Border Conquest- American base rape and strafe your planes/choppers and ruin the game. (It’s hard to play when you can’t even leave you base).

Don’t get me wrong, I like this game, but ALL enemy bases need to be NO FLY ZONES. Those AA’s are crap. At least give them a SAM missle or something…

If it was truly announced with the incorrect date then by the next day they would’ve corrected it. Whats actually happening here is they aren’t able to fit everything into it they wanted to and need to push the date back. Good try.

Really, Daniel? Then why didn’t anyone correct it when they announced the thing?

That’s either a blatant lie or an incredibly stupid oversight. Either way…I am disappoint.

Dude, don’t hate on the Mass Effect games. They are awesome games.

And if you think that a single player game with such an immersive story and the ability to make your own decisions is poor quality.. then well… I don’t know what you consider “good quality”.
And it’s not “rehashed” of the first one, how could it be? It’s a completely new storyline, with new characters, new worlds, ect. They even buffed up the audio system (HDR audio) and graphics (some new effects). And to be honest.. in terms of Mass Effect.. why would you fix something that ain’t broken? Oh and 80 bucks? I payed 50 only.. lol.

Oh yeah and MW3 is a rehash of MW2, not MW1 (which was the last good CoD tbh).

Problem with Modern Warfare is that its got a big focus on Multi-Player. However, MW2′s Multi-Player Gameplay focused solely on Kill/Death Ratio. MW3 fixed this by changing up the way stuff Unlocks etc. so you can play any way you want, but still Lone-Wolf, so the dull K/D focused Gameplay remains unfortunately.

If you play Modern Warfare solely for the Campaign, you’ll find the story continues on with the same Team as with MW/2, same as Mass Effect continues the Story line with Mass Effect 2 and the upcoming Mass Effect 3. The Gameplay however is also far more interesting.

MW plays like a FPS Campaign. ME plays like an FPSRPG. You’ve got choices and things you can do which will influence the Campaign, and the outcome. With MW its just pure “Clear Level, move on to next Level. Rinse, Repeat. Campaign Complete!” Its really not a fair comparison, they’re completely different in Mechanics, Gameplay, and even Quality (not to mention Graphics). If you can’t stand RPGs, you won’t be able to play ME3, but if you can, go back to the Demo and try it again, but don’t look at it like Modern Warfare, just don’t look at it like anything.

I think the thing that changed the COD franchise was the customizable killstreaks. That turned everyone into the 1v1 my k/d is “beast” people that are COD. While the lone wolf was always there, it magnified once they could “merk” “MOAB” people. I’ll admit, the first BF game I played was BC2 and it took some adapting to since I was so use to the COD style gameplay. Now I hear that BF3 team play sucks compaired to BF2, its still way more team oriented than COD. While console may be way different than PC, with 12v12, 1 good squad playing together can run the game. Thats why I continue to play the broken BF3 over MW3. Im over k/d. I like winning and winning when playing with my squad

BC2 was/is fun, change of pace from BF2/BF3. BF3 is more BF2, but still not quite. CoD 4 was fun too, MW2 killed it completely, yeah. Supposedly fixed in MW3, but from what I see, still not as good as CoD 4. I’ll try CoD when they can beat CoD 4, until then, not going back either.

The reason is because it’s the E3 demo we’ve been playing which doesn’t have high res graphics.
          The full game will though.

Alright, let’s say we believe someone published the wrong dates. Why did DICE wait until the end of February to correct it?

Fuck this game. I’m done with it. No PC VoIP, no teamwork, colonel in under 100 hours, full of bugs and full of cheaters and hackers. If Battlefield 2142 didn’t crash on a quad core I’d just play that. So I guess it’s back to Skyrim, at least Bethesda don’t fuck their customers in the brown eye.

      That’s correct!
a)The worst thing is that you can easily play solo. No teamwork is needed at all. No squad not anything. Just trying to cap flags alone can give you points to level up. So the myth of teamwork is definitely busted. b) hacks/cheats etc. OMG this is tragedy. They haven’t done anything to protect the game. Servers full of cheaters, unprotected. You can find servers that give the feeling of 3rd party pirate servers. c) Full of bugs and unbalanced weapons/situations or matchmaking/team making.
