DICE is known for including various Easter Eggs on maps, especially little, vague ones to tease upcoming games. For instance, back in 2006 they included some Easter Eggs in Battlefield 2: Euro Forces and Armored Fury map packs, which hinted at a new title called “2142″ — way before Battlefield 2142 was officially announced.

If we are to follow the same logic this time, a sequel to Battlefield 2142 is very possible, as an Easter Egg on Wake Island shows the number “2143″. We don’t think that’s a coincidence, in fact, it might just be the very first hint at Battlefield 2143.

Thanks to Sammy for the awesome tip!

However don’t fuck it up this time. Bf3 was to be a sequel to BF2, yet no commander, 6 player squads, and no encouraged teamwork. Please bring back the good battlefield gameplay experience to BF2143 if it comes out.

BF3 is fine, but in a comparison to BF2 it overall loses. Quality has dropped in BF3 compared to BF2, except for Graphics. But “use an older Engine?” Like what? Refractor 2? Not going to happen. Frostbite 1? Crappy. Frostbite1.5? Pointless.

DICE already does whatever they want, with the exception of what EA wants of course.

Dice does what it wants? dude they listen to the community, we wanted a commorose, we got it, we wanted the flashlights to blind less, we got it, on the other hand, EA is a company who NEEDS to fight the COD nubs, so they need some kind of formula what bf2 didnt have, since most kids went to cod2 and later on, mw. So they need to pick the balance and my guess would be they did it good, not perfect, and this one i have to agree, bf2 did a better job on the gameplay, but hey, who know’s, maybe some dlc will pop up and bring us the oldskool hardecore bf2 gameplay feeling, KEEP IT UP DICE !!

DICE does what it wants to a certain degree. 4-Player Squads, no Commander Mode, lack of Mod Tools (well, probably EA behind this one, anyway), reduced amount of Objectives, etc. etc. etc. They totally nuked Hardcore Mode into a Glorified Softcore Mode. You’re blaming EA too much. They wanted a CoD Killer, so DICE made a CoD Switch-over Beta (Op. Metro on Rush). They wanted to get BF3 out before MW3, so they rushed the release. They aren’t responsible for every Gameplay choice in BF3 however.

And seriously, Flashlights? We’ve been telling them about Flashlights since Alpha. It took them Alpha, Beta, and 3 Patches on Live to fix Flashlights. VERY bad example.

DICE does what it wants. It listens to what Feedback it WANTS to listen to. They can freely ignore any suggestions, so yeah, they do what they want. The Community is not in control of the Game, the Community can simply try to influence Developers to make the choices they want them to make. There’s a difference.

i gotta agree on the influence from players to ea or dice, but think twice, it is a multimilion business and if the game would be like what u and i want, the game would only be played by those happy fans like us, but they cant make profit enough, to be and stay at nr1 to keep on going us the quality we demand… BUT ….

they ruined the gameplay, i think we both trying to say that, i TOTALLY agree .. me myself am a good pilot, trained in 1942 desert combat, THAT was gameplay … put that in frostbite 2.5 engine and it would totally ROCK

i so very much hope there is a DLC in the planning without the COD touch of plain BF3. real flight physics, so much real, u need at least 10 hours in helicopter to even fly from point a to b, not saying anything about firing weapons and actually hit and kill

DICE is proud of Frostbite 2, and yet EA and DICE both know how long Mod Tools extend Game lifespan by. Games start to die these days a few months after DLCs stop being shipped out. 10 years ago you think what, Devs weren’t afraid of their Tech being stolen when they were releasing Mod Tools? If they at least used a reasonable excuse it wouldn’t be so bad but “lol, you guys are too stupid”? What a sad, pathetic joke. Also, many Mod Tools are limited versions of their Engines, if they’re afraid of someone stealing their coding, limit it. There’s always a way, if they care enough to find it. And besides, ripping off coding? Seriously? Where did you get that from? Its beyond simple to rip off coding from Unreal Engine 3 (the SDK is even free), CryEngine 3 (Mod Tools) or even id Tech 5 (Mod Tools expected). Why would DICE suddenly be a prime target? Is CryTek not proud of their Engine? Epic Games? Carmack isn’t proud of his latest Graphical Marvel? Hah.

Besides, all Game Engines are created similarly, since they’re supposed to do similar things. If you get all the coding, you could probably find similarities all over the place.

I completely agree with Implied. there are so many great things about bf3, especially the engine. Love the graphics/destruction. But overall, BF2 was better. The map design was better, the choke points were better. And unlocking stuff actually mattered. In BF3 there’s a new unlock every 5-10 mins, most of which isn’t very exciting. They included too many unlocks just for the sake of numbers (makes me think Michael Bay advised them on this part of the game).

I love BF3, and i wanted to love B2K a lot. But they messed up the intense choke point gameplay that made these maps so great to begin with.

BF3 does so many things right. And it’s a downright beautiful game. But they gotta get those city fights back into the game with the choke points and intense stand off between teams. I’d love it if they released another city map or two for the sole purpose of recreating BF2 style fights.

I’m not too sure what you mean here.

In the Battlefield series, they have their individual cannons:
      Battlefield (BF1942, BF2 and BF3)
      ‘Future’ (2142 and a possible 2143)
Bad Company (BC, BC2 and a possible BC3)
      Online (Heroes and Play4Free)

I’m not too sure where one would group BF Vietnam and 1943. Definitely not Online, BC or Future, and it can’t be original BF because it would make BF3 actually BF4 or BF5.

Back to your main point, this isn’t a ‘yearly sequel’. If it’s true that 2143 comes out next year, it’s actually been 6 years. That’s a long time for a sequel. Although, they unlike Battlefield 3, they mightn’t have been in progress with the game for all that time. It’s still likely they only started 2143 last year or this year, but either way it’s still not a ‘yearly sequel’ :P .

The hell are you talking about canon for? Besides the fact that the only consistent “canon” in the Battlefield franchise has been the Bad Company games, the term “yearly sequel” is a marketing handle. And the market couldn’t give two shits about “canon” and story consistency.

The yearly sequel strategy implies a cycle of releasing a major title in a FRANCHISE every year. This is why the Modern Warfare series has been on a two-year sequel release cycle, but the Call of Duty franchise is on a yearly sequel cycle. Try to tell Activision marketers how it doesn’t count because Modern Warfare is technically its own canon, and see how many varieties of “fuck off” you can drum out of them.

EA is adopting the same strategy as Activision. They want to pick up the shooter throne after CoD’s eventual inevitable decline. The question is whether or not shifting the dev cycles of one of their consistently best studios is such a good idea.

Doesn’t mean I’m looking forward to 2143 any less. I still think 2142 was the pinnacle of the franchise in terms of feature-set. But I advise caution, because DICE is now EA’s workhorse, even over Bioware.

Why do people want 2143 as an expansion?

The problem with expansions is that you can be deprived of many features because it’s too big for an expansion and may as well be a game. They released the BtK expansion with a 4gb preload – that was just 4 maps and 10 weapons.

Re-rendering Titans would be huge work, and also would only be on very select maps. It’s the same as not being able to use a DPV on non-Back to Karkand maps.

By releasing 2143 as a game, it allows titans + other 2143 originals to be used to their full extent and across any and all maps.

    Just my thoughts, anyway :)

I don’t think I could have said this better myself. Thumbs up for you.

I also think DICE need this as a full game. As a developer it would be boring just to continue making “modern era” games. DICE must look back at it roots and say “What made BF2142 such a great game” and (again) let the imaginations go wild, keeping what was good (what we gamers loved) but expanding and adding upon that (which unfortunately BF3 sort off lacked).

I also think DICE should hold off on releasing this for another 3 years until next gen consoles are in the full swing because right now as it is, titan mode on a small map with 24 players would equal……Blah (not trying to shit on you console players parade. I just want to see a better game for all of us.)

      Just throwing my two cents.

To clarify on this – From EA’s point of view, its too far off. Especially if they really don’t have any Prototypes as they claim. They might have insider information as to whether or not they’ll be announced at E3 2012 or not, but if they don’t, I doubt they’ll be interested in stalling the Game for a couple of years.

Also expanding on the above – DICE would most likely prefer to start off on Next-Gen Consoles with an Engine they’ve actually designed with Next-Gen Consoles and PCs in mind (Frostbite 3), rather than an Engine they’d have to Port over (Frostbite 2). Many Studios are waiting on Next-Gen Consoles to release their new Engines as well. Epic Games – Unreal Engine 4. CryTek – CryEngine 4. id Software – id Tech 6. Same deal with DICE.

Upgraded pc’s? Any few year old pc can play bf3 just fine. Furthermore pc gamers have been subject to consolized games plenty of times by now. Surely you don’t want to delay a game just cause console gamers can then get a “proper” pc experience?

Either buy it on the pc or deal with the restrictions of the console version. Delaying a version on the pc cause the console can’t keep up doesn’t sound very fair.

There’s plenty of games I’d love to play on my pc but can’t due to console only. What you ought to do is check what genre you like to play and pick your platform accordingly. Don’t let the so called high price of a PC fool you. Games are cheaper and the buy price can be toned down to the 400-600 euro range if you construct your own.

Even though I love Battlefield 3, I’m sick of the “modern warfare” theme. Maybe 2143, could take some cues from Crysis 2. Not all of them by any means of course. 2143 soldiers don’t need nanosuits.

Great! I’ve always liked 2142. Personally i wouldn’t mind if they used 2-3 years from now if they manage to get it more awesome than BF3

Wait!! Does no one realize that Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike took place in 2145? How would a sequel be 2143 if the events of the Battlefield 2142 expansion finished in 2145?

Nitpicking. That doesn’t disqualify 2143 from being the title of the sequel to 2142.

Well, nobody knows what happened in 2143 on other side of the world, so will probably use that idea. They can potentionally set be2143 anywhere apart from the place where 2142 and 2145 took place.

I’m just saying it’s not like there’s some huge continuity hole here or anything. It’s the appropriate title.

Well BF3 takes place in 2014, and yet when Marty and Doc travel to 2015 in Back to the Future 2 there is no mention of a Nuke blowing up in Paris a year earlier, and therefore BF3 is a time paradox… DICE must be informed of their wrong-doings and a patch must be released OR ELSE!

Blah blah, just bring battlefield 4 in the next title, and that will be the most exciting one after bf3!!! Battlefield 1942,1943, BF2, BF2 expansion packs, and BF3 were the best ones by far thats the REAL battlefield games, keep em coming!

Im enjoying bf3 with the modern combat as it is.
I’d like to see dedicated conquest maps though
Also I’d like more DLC/expansions like they offered with BF2.

I wasnt that fussed with BF2142, but will get 2143 if it comes.

I’d like to see battlefield 1944 though.

“6-Month Aggressive DLC” Plan slated for 2012. Followed by most likely 2-3 more months of “Toned Down DLC.”

Hope it is an expansion pack. Remember DICE said “8 times for DLC content for BF3 than BC2″. BC2 had 7 VIP packs on PC and 1 Expansion Pack (Vietnam). Really? will the numbers be 8 times that much?

B2K would probably compare in size for Vietnam BC2.
Those VIP map packs weren’t particularly large in my opinion as only some offered new maps, and the rest were new modes for maps.
I’d be happy with 8 B2k Sized DLCs

Ya, ’bout had it with these P.C. shits acting like they’re high and mighty ’cause they use a computer. Must be some nerd elitist rank thing. Oh, and not just kids play on console. My buds and I are military and former military and play on Xbox and I’m sure they wouldn’t take too kindly to being called “kiddies”.

Relax my son. I too find it hard to use them pc’s. When I was a gal a computer was a person with math skill, or as you prefer: a “nerd”.
And as you say you are military I start thinking: do you mean as ingame? Because you and your pals seem to be very un-noble

Since PC gaming is more competitive (doesn’t mean better) some PC tards think they’re almighty and super awesome demigods.

I’m a PC gamer actually, but this is ridiculous. There’s no need to insult eachother.
