The first Battlefield 3 expansion, Back To Karkand, has been released on the PlayStation 3, and some members of the GameStop Power-Up service have received a mini strategy guide for Back To Karkand, which includes map overviews of all four maps, and for all versions of the maps.

It looks like Strike At Karkand will be more limited than in Battlefield 2, and will only have 5 capture points in its largest version. Wake Island will have 5 flags as well, while Sharqi Peninsula and Gulf of Oman on the other hand, will support 7 flags in 64 player mode. Full map overviews below.

So by looking at this map overview, this means that consoles will get 3 out of those 4 maps with 5 flags right? looks like the only map we’ll get with 4 flags is gulf of oman, this correct??????

Agreed! I mean you still see that little island on the map, still you can’t access it?
I wonder whether they actually remade that little island in BF3, but I assume they did. So it would be a waste of not opening it up!

Let’s all remember that this is the PS3 version of maps! PS3 cannot do 64 players. Strike at Karkand WILL include across the river play. I repeat, WILL include 7 points and all the bridge battle 64 player glory that comes with it! :P

Because the last flag on karkand sucked. It was wide open and no cover and barely anyone ever went back there.

:-/ i went there tons with my squadies purely because the defending team tended to forget about it, there was nothing wrong with its placement it served its purpose loads of times.

Couldn’t agree more Mike. The last flag absolutely served it’s purpose. Anyone who says anything otherwise, doesn’t have a clue. There’s a reason why Karkand is one of the most popular maps in Battlefield.

To be perfectly honest, none of the new maps in BF3 hold a candle to any of the maps found in BF1942 or BF2. They are poorly designed maps with horrid flag placements, and it’s all done in order to satisfy the CoD crowd.

At this point, I’m just hoping they don’t screw up the B2K maps. Simply put, they work and they need nothing else other than a fresh coat of paint. That’s it.

      What the guy above said.

More importantly – It seems some of these Maps are mis-labeled, so where you see 5 its probably just 32-Players, with the obvious exception of Wake Island which is always 5.

This is NOT legit screens of the maps. Strike at Karkand 64p version is with SEVEN flags. I’ve seen GAMEPLAY of Strike at Karkand over the bridge.

Please, BF3Blog, don’t post unofficial shit that confuses people.

Fake. Honestly why have this been posted? DICE themselves have stated (and this site quoted) that ONE flag has been removed from Karkand and another one was added to.. Oman I believe. Anyway we’ve also seen gameplay with 7 flags in both Karkand and Sharqi so please do tell me why we should take these images at legit. Unless they only show the console version of the maps.

huh? i can see clearly 7 flags on some of those images :s not all of them are going to display all 7 flags there are smaller flag conquests ya know! anyhow i downloaded on ps3 and we have standard still with the exception of oman with 5 flags i can see why everyone wants 5 flags on ps3 its rubbish with only 24 players! dice need to bump this limit to 32-34 at least and dont tell me they cant i heard it all before of course they can they are pure lazy even dice have tested and said they ran 100+ player online on ps3 for tests. :/

Seriously… even if they are allowed to limit it to 32(they are not lazy, they are not allowed to), it will kill the framerate in a lot of situations. Believe it or not, but the consoles are getting old and this game has high requirements.

And I want a link to prove your statement that they’ve done 100+player tests.

    Dear BF3Blog,

Two thumbs up for this post. I prize these layout views of the maps. You guys posted a fantastic layout view of caspian border a while back – can you post these for all the maps in a single shot? The dark background with highlighted flags is ideal.

I doubt the console fanboys are doing much of this but I’m sure a good handful of PC players would agree with me and my squadmates that they are perfect for drawing up battle plans for AA’s, SOFLAM placement, sniper drops and so forth.

Are there people really that sad? I sit down, play the game, get up.. that’s it. I would never waste time meeting up with “squaddies” and drawing out battle plans for a GAME lmfao.

Play the game, switch it off, go upstairs at 3am, wake up the Mrs, play time game, go to sleep

That’s how the plan goes, and it works fine

The destruction is awesome and have inproved alot. The maps are much more detailed in my opinion. You can enter almost ervery building, especially in Karkand!
