Back To Karkand
Battlefield 3′s first DLC/expansion pack is called Back To Karkand, and brings back famous Battlefield 2 maps, weapons and vehicles, and brings them into Battlefield 3 with much improved visuals and technology, thanks to the Frostbite engine. We figured it would be a great idea to summarize everything we know about Back To Karkand, what it will include, and so on.

Back To Karkand release date and price

Back To Karkand will be released in December, and will arrive one week earlier for PlayStation 3 users. If you own the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3, you’ll get it for free, otherwise the price is $15 (1,200 MS points on the Xbox 360).

Back To Karkand content

Back to Karkand won’t just feature new maps, but will include new weapons, vehicles and a new game mode as well.

Weapons

Game modes

Vehicles

  • F35B fighter jet
  • BTR-90 infantry fighting vehicle
  • DPV fast transport vehicle

Maps

In addition, Back To Karkand will include new, objective-based rewards, ribbons and medals, and will feature new Xbox 360 achievements and PlayStation 3 trophies. Technology wise, the expansion pack will feature improved destruction as well.

For some media, be sure to check out some Back To Karkand screenshots and videos.

If the these maps are in the same rotation with the old maps then does that mean the old maps will get conquest assault?

Highly unlikely we’ll see Conquest Assault on regular BF3 maps. In Back To Karkand, it’ll most likely be available on Strike At Karkand, Wake Island, and Sharqi Peninsula. In BF2, those maps had one team attacking and the other defending.

All of those weapons are going to be added to the regular map rotation! Go read the states for each weapon. They say it on those pages. SO EXCITED.

Who knows, i still believe they could be added to the regular vanilla maps because you install the game mode onto your game data. :/

What I want to know is what vehicles each map will have, I really hope there’s no AA vehicles on any of the maps.

I think they’ll stick with what was in BF2. If I remember correctly, Gulf Of Oman was the only map that had AA vehicles?

Well Wake Island being described as an air vehicle heavy map should have some means of AA on ground. hopefully they dont over do it.

I WANT AA vehicles. I want to unlock everything for them but I can’t find them on console maps. On PC Caspian border Conquest they exist but not for Consoles. I love helis too and AA vehicles can ruin your day, but most people suck at those. So far I only got one kill with an AA vehicle, the Tunguska.

One map i know of is Noshahr Canals in RUSH. You have to play as RU which defends on Noshahr Canals against a Huey and scout heliocopter.

It’s not really everything we need know if we don’t have an exact date for it. Just sayin’. Also I remember the application requirements for being a writer for BF3Blog. It emphasized on “excellent writer”. When I read the news from this blog, it seemed rushed and there has been multiple times that there were grammar errors. I let it go a few times though. Maybe it’s rushed because you guys are playing the “We are the first blog to get this information out!” game?

Not to jump on the bandwagon and dance to the band playing but everyone is right. As Thall said “Glad you could find it in your infinite wisdom to “let the grammatical errors go”. Obviously your all mighty wisdom didn’t realize that the post says “We figured it would be a great idea to summarize everything we know about Back To Karkand, what it will include, and so on”. This is pretty much the only site I use now to get BF3 info. IMO, It’s a great balance of an excellent fan site AND news site.

Will this extra destruction and weapons be available in normal BF3 as extra abilities? Or will it be like a separate game on it’s own and everything is restricted to the expansion “game” when you load up “that expansion” to play “it” ?

Weapons will be playable across all Maps, Vanilla + BtK. Vehicles will be of course on a Per-Map Basis, and the “Improved” Destruction will be a BtK only feature (most probably, since we’ve heard no word of Vanilla Map Changes with BtK). I believe the “Improved” Destruction is because the BtK Developers wanted to put in more Destruction than the Vanilla BF3 Map Devs, so they did.

The Maps will be incorporated into the same Map Rotation as the Vanilla Maps, so it’ll work same as a DLC, except it features more content (thus, “Expansion Pack”). It won’t be like BC2′s Vietnam which we chose from the Menu Screen though, no.

There is no dout there will be more than 3 flags for consoles, considering the max flags in one map for consoles is 4.

to be honest im more concerned if there gonna console-ify the maps -_- i know we’ve seen in the video 7 flags on the map, but bf3blogs joke about the flags been stuck together wont be far from the truth i fear. Oman will have the aircraft carrier sat right off shore so you can jump off the carrier onto the first set of flags -_-

On this – As I see it, Objective Positioning will be a definite response to the Community as to whether or not DICE is going to be generally squishing Objectives close together with future DLCs and future Games.

Its been confirmed PC Version will feature 7 Objectives (with the obvious exception of Wake Island which will feature the usual 5), which is great news, now its just a question of whether or not they’ve squished them all together now.

IIRC however the Carrier was only available in 32/64-Players Oman in BF2, I don’t think they’d need to push it THAT much closer for the 24-Player Map, and even if they did, they’d probably (hopefully) push it back for the 32/64-Player Versions.

        Correct.

I’ve said it a couple times now but if people would actually examine some of the videos (particularly IGN’s) or look at the original thread for the weapons leak then you’d realise that the MP5 IS NOT IN THE BTK PACK.

The actual weapon is the HK53, a carbine (which fires 5.56x45mm) that is similar in appearance to the MP5. It is an Engineer unlock along with the QBZ-95B (or Type 97 as BF3Blog has called it).

Actually I think its been confirmed they’ll follow the “All-Maps-All-Modes” Strategy they employed with the Vanilla BF3 Maps, although I don’t quite remember when. Was a week or two ago. Which means these Maps will probably feature Conquest + Assault, Rush/Squad, Team/Squad Deathmatch, but Conquest Assault probably won’t be ported over to the Vanilla Maps, not sure. Bit confusing for Game Modes atm.

Looked it up – Zh1nt0 (Daniel Matros) confirmed it in an Interview with another Community Site -

        “All game modes available

You’ll be able to play all gamemodes on back to Karkand maps. That means Rush on Wake Island, oh lala!”

Google “Back to Karkand Game Modes” it’ll be near the bottom of the Page.

most classic maps from bf2 and we get to relive the memories finally!!! plz dice put more than 3 freekin flags on CQ for consoles. 3 flags lined up in the middle doesnt fit right for big or tight maps, spreading the flags and putting 4 or more then u will be happy, give console players what they want. 3 flags= enemies capturing all 3 in a heartbeat to win the round. 3 flags=a waste of space of the outside surrounding of the map. plz put more than 3 flags, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
