The latest Battlefield 3 trailer gave us a glimpse of Strike At Karkand, one of the Back To Karkand maps, but what you may have missed is that the trailer included a few frames of the map without destruction, and a few with full destruction. We’ve extracted those from the trailer so you can see for yourself on the image above (and make sure to check out the high-res version).

BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
buildings still standing
Well this isnt the whole map,,,its a picture….
You really think they got 100% destructible buildings in multiplayer?
Balance > realism.
Still tough , even *shivers* BC2 had 2 story buildings you could demolish
But yarr not everything -should- be destructible , that would be too much
ya but the buildings in BF3 have a lot more detail then the ones in BFBC2
Not really, they don’t. BF3 actually has surprisingly low res textures. It is just that most power goes to effects.
Well it seems like everyone is being super hyped because of this picture because damn it looks good. The after looks like a real war scene. THIS PIC IS WRONG though. DICE stated that the rubble would not stay in place. On all the BF3 news site I’ve seen this pic on, not a single site mentioned that.
Well in the video Mutiplayer at that, they shown a whole building crumbling too the ground…so yea I think.plus a few of the buildings in Bad company(even tho I hated that one) had a few building models that can be destroyed.
Yeah but those were just stand-alone houses for the most part… This is an densly contructed urban street whose facade is basically ripped to shreds.
ooo and i thought it should be
Balance = Realism
Not sure if serious….
Realism is a B-52 carpet bombing and no battle.
I’m fine with that, but there should be at least some buildings you can completely collapse
I think that is liable at some point down the line. However, that would mean having them fall down realistically, rather than straight down like in BC2, and so negate balance issues (i.e. people hiding in them like in bunkers). So it would take some time to develop.
“Why no destructible buildings” bugged me at first too since it was cool in BFBC2, but DICE claimed the ability to turn an entire city to rubble had too great a performance penalty.
And really, if you think about urban firefights, most units aren’t playing demolition crew demolishing entire buildings in the heat of battle, you’ll see a building face ripped open here or there but not absolute rubble unless its airforce doing heavy bombing.
I’m sure they wanted to give it to us, maybe we’ll seee it in FB 3.0, on next gen consoles and PC video cards.
Dude, you cant break each map by dropping the entire buildings, that wouldnt make sense
Even in BFBC2 each bldg imploded in place
100% destruction just means the defense could bury every obj under rubble and win the round
There is going to be fully destructible buildings, some of them at least. You can see it even in the trailer in some parts.
Not much longer!!!!
Playing this map will be the best way to compare old skool BF2
Not to mention Wake and Sharqui. A lot of peeps hate wake. I love it. And Sharqui is always interesting.
Oman is the other map bro, though Wake will probably be handed out later for everyone per DICE having it in pretty much all games they make.
They both look incredible and I’m sure it will be awesome to play – not long now
I’m laughing at the guys who thought that the alpha and beta destruction represents the final version now.
When i get this game in my hands, i will turn on my speakers, play the Battlefield 1942 theme song, and install it while running around in my room shooting at my wall.
im gunna do the same … but naked
Possibly one of the coolest trailers I’ve ever seen.
Looking good! Can´t wait!
Same as BC2
You need to get your eyes checked.
Wow, it looks like an improvement over BC2′s destruction. (There will be buildings which collapse, watch the trailer)
It looks far more “realistic”, imo.
And it’s not realistic to level a whole city to the ground. Look at WWII for example, there were still a lot of houses standing or only half collapsed.
And the only things I can think of which would be able to destroy a whole city are Daisy Cutters (A lot of ‘em) and Tactical Nuclear Warheads and maybe a lot of artillery.
I feel bad for the CoD players who see this……. They probably will going into depression hahaha
umm right… or they will just buy bf!?
lol yeah they are. Our destruction is buildings and there destruction is glass in windows. xD
At least their grenades go through glass
We can see here that destroyed walls are all over the road. They don’t disappear like in BC2 . Nice job DICE!
Let’s see Call of Duty do that! HA!
How CoD maps are created:
1. Take a small infantry map and throw it into Battlefield.
2. After a match take the remains, shrink them even more, add invisible borders.
3. Put into Call of Duty.
Well, I guess they turned the destruction on…
looks like Libya after NATO came in. stupid NATO…
What would Lybia look like if NATO hadn’t intervene?
a bunch of dead people who got shot or had there lungs burn out by gas. watch the news people, it would have been much worse.
lol NATO is just an excuse for oil, but we better not get a war started in the forums
O__O”
Oh God, I can’t wait any longer for this awesomeness…
BUT I HAVE TO!! :’( boohoohoo…
I think I’ll trade commander for destruction.
Then go play bf2…
I think you read my comment the wrong way. Reverse. Commander is cool but destruction is cooler.
Oh you’re right I did. Nevermind!
I’m wondering. The text on these screenshots says “100% destruction”, but I see a few walls that look destructible (look at the top right to see what I mean), so is “100%” accurate? Looks more like 90% to me.
i don’t think they literally meant 100%, i think they meant the one that actually took damage were close to 100% but thats all :/ i have to agree though it does look more like 90%
Yeah, I was joking…
That destruction is plenty.
Battlefield 3 xbox 360 screenshots leaked! and It just looks looks spectacular… BRAVO dice, you have succeeded on consoles too!
http://ruliweb.daum.net/news/view/37351.daum
Lookin’ guuuuuuuuud!
yep console don’t look bad at all but that’s not really whats on my mind, i just hope it runs well. …ps3 sucks
ps3 is fine to me, not even a hickup, never had a problem unlike my xbox, and pc. with all the you cant run this bs.
How do you know those are xbox images? I translated the page and there wasn’t any indication that its xbox. If it is, Im impressed!
if you look at some on the screenshots, it shows the button icons for xbox. like the A button, B button, and RB
Doesn’t look as good as the completely flat buildings in Bfbc2.
It looks better, IMO. It’s unrealistic that huge buildings can collapse when being shot at by AP rounds. And if you watch the trailer you’ll see that there’ll still be buildings which will collapse after a certain amount of damage, just more realistic than BC2 had it.
Your use of the term ‘unrealistic’ is greatly flawed.
You can very much destroy an entire building with AP rounds. It would just take significantly more of them than using HE’s. It’s a simple matter of physics and dealing sufficient damage to supporting walls and structures.
The reason they removed the ability to completely destroy some (most?) buildings was for gameplay reasons, certainly not for the sake of ‘realism’. I tend to agree with their decision on the whole, as having zero standing buildings would suck for infantry trying to get through an area. It’s just a matter of time now to see whether or not the actual implementation is done well. The pics shown are impressive and certainly make it look like they’ve got it right.
I can see the “gameplay reasons” explanation to an extent, but I never had any problem with too many destroyed buildings in BC2.
But hey, so long as I can kill someone who thinks they are safe with an RPG, I’ll be happy whether the building is still standing or not!
(by far one of the most satisfying gaming moments)
@Kill:
BC2 had no urban areas with full destruction (campaign levels in suburban areas had only partial destruction).
RPG spaming for me, EVERYONE’S DOING IT!!! peer pressure FTW.
I recall one of the BF3 producers mentioning in a video that multiplayer will have partial destruction, meaning the facades, but will not be able to completely topple a large building like in the single player side. If thats still the case that sucks.. but then again, when youre playing and you know some a$$hole is just roaring down the road with a tank ONLY to topple a building simply because it can kinda makes it gay.
Tank games were always fun in BC 2. Two tanks roll up on a few enemy players who foolishly take cover in a building. hahaha.
I wish those power lines are also part of the destruction
cod player : theres a wall in front of that guy, go around…battlefield 3 player: Or we could just run the wall over with a tank!
CoD player: there’s an enemy behind that wall! maybe we can stun him then jump through the upstairs window run down the stairs and double team him with our super OP guns. FAIL
BF player: theres an enemy behind that wall! ….*BOOM*… what wall? WIN
U MAD CoD??
How come James and Neil don’t comment, are they for the forum?
Sadly, I have school on the 25th. But, with amazon release date shipping, by the time i get home, it will have arrived on my doorstep. I will then proceed to play all day and night, have a 1/2 day with stupid standardized testing, then a 4 day weekend, i am so ready!!!!
Studying is good for you XD
i admit i hated school. barely went but when i did (and studied) i found myself passing with ease. ha so its true
What I’m excited about is that some of the flooring is actually destroyed, as opposed to just the facade. Feels more realistic
If I can take out the floor and drop someone to their death from beneath I will by an extra copy of this game just because.
