Battlefield 3 5 million
A few days ago EA revealed that they had shipped 10 million copies of Battlefield 3, but as we know, “shipped” doesn’t mean “sold”, and many wondered how many of those copies were sold. Well now EA has revealed just how many they’ve sold: 5 million. That’s including the 3 million pre-orders of the game. EA didn’t break down how many copies were sold on the individual systems.

Battlefield 3 launched exactly one week ago in the United States, and while gamers saw some issues with game servers, most of the server issues have been resolved by now. EA also announced that the Battlefield franchise to date spans 17 titles that have sold a combined total of 50 million units.

no at all, they just don’t want partners at that sector.
imagine if Dice want to improve some parts of the game and Steam declines that permission, it’s hard to give ‘back-up’ to the real players.
because that and don’t think it’s impossible, cause it happens.
EA just wanted to clear out that problem.
is it as good as Steam? not yet, of course, it’s kinda new and in progress, so give them a little time to handle.
andd… there’s war between cod and bf so why no war between steam and origin? they are making their company bigger and bigger. think about that…

EA calculated the losses from Steam Fanboys to be at around 100K.

And really, Steam Fanboys are just sad. Not buying something because its not on their favorite Digital Store. Not like anyone could avoid using Origin just because its bought from Steam, just like you can’t avoid using Origin if you buy it right now from Direct2Drive, or any other Digital Store which does offer it.

LS – The two are completely different. Call of Duty used to offer Players a decent experience, now its a watered down Activision Money Milking experience. Battlefield continues to offer Players a unique and overall, pure awesome experience.

On the other hand, Steam was off to a bumpy start, and people avoided it for a long time until it’s issues were sorted out. What EA is doing however is completely different. They force you to use Origin regardless of whether or not you WANT to, so they can show off their big fancy numbers (5 Million Users Daily they claimed. I wonder how many of those 5 Million play BF3 and would willingly rather prefer to avoid Origin? My bet is, more than 4.5 Million of them, and the numbers are going to skyrocket in December when they launch ToR, and in turn Mass Effect 3 next year).

Then there’s that Origin “Spyware Clause” scandal thing that still has paranoid crack addicts shouting about how we’re having our information stolen every chance they get. Having it up on Steam even for Pre-Ordering would make no (real) difference. Digital Sales directly from the Origin, or any of the other Digital Stores which offer Battlefield 3 would be substantially lower, but in the end we’d still be running Origin in the background. The 5 Million wouldn’t become 6 Million just because its on Steam.

although i do agree with you, you can’t really blame steam fanboys for only buying from steam,

i mean, this is like ifDICE made it so that BF3 could NOT be sold in gamestop,
i would guarantee you there sales would fall and that even loyal BF fans wouldnt buy it

And that’s as stupid as not buying it because its not on Steam. You lose out on experiencing a great Game. Actually, I’d question that – How much of a Battlefield Fan can you be if you’d be willing to not buy Battlefield 3 because it doesn’t show up on your favorite Digital Store? The (arguably) best Battlefield Game? (Debatable if its best, will always be based on the Player’s Point of View, some Die-Hard Battlefield 2 Fans still play that and probably consider it superior for example. For sure, a lot of people will see this as the best release so far, probably until Battlefield 4, assuming EA doesn’t ruin that one).

No guarantee that it’s about a protest boycott. They are probably losing some causal PC gamers that are simply used to checking Steam alone. What they know about PC games comes from the Steam store.

IIRC, the 100k estimate came from a third party estimate.

I cant wait to see how many copies are sold by January. I dont care if CoD MW3 sells more (which it probably will just because of the name). My goal is that it sells 20+ million copies within the next two years. and please keep some o DLC’s free at least?

Exactly. CoD is just sold for a sereies with a over-rated label.
Here is an example of pre-manufacturing discussions.
        Infinity Ward:
No.1:Ok guys, MW3. Lets just take MW2, program different skins for characters and weapons and put it on store shelves.
        No.2:Great idea!
No.1:Ok guys, Battlefield 3. This has to be all new. We don’t want people to think this the same.
        No.2:Let’s do this!
As you can see, DICE is more fan friendly.

There’s somewhere between 55-56 Million Xbox 360s Sold, and around 52 Million PS3s Sold (Sony and Microsoft released numbers recently, I’m rounding up a bit). Granted VG Chartz had Xbox Pre-Orders much higher than PS3′s, but they’re not exactly “accurate.”

We’ll probably never know for sure unless EA/DICE tells us, and I doubt they will.

Bad Company 1 was for both PS3 and Xbox 360. Modern Combat (BF2 Console) was for the PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360. 1943 was for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, meaning Xbox 360/PS3.

          BC2 like BF3 was/is for PC + PS3/Xbox 360.

VGchartz numbers are ‘sales estimates’ even though they post them as if they’re fact. They’re not verifiable numbers.

That said, yes MW3 is going to sell more, that’s just a given. Black Ops sold more copies in the first 24 hours than Battlefield 3 did in it’s first week. It just plain has a larger fanbase, there’s no arguing or denying that unless people have blinded themselves.

But yeah, I don’t pay much attention to Analysts since they really can’t predict the future, but one report said MW3 will outsell BF3 3-to-1, meaning if BF3 Sells 10 Million, MW3 will sell 30 Million. Based on Black Ops Numbers, for sure CoD will still out-sell. Its just a matter of whether its 2-to-1, or more.

When MW3 out sells bf3, its because of this. Me and my friends are in high school too, and we might mention it for a minute during lunch or study hall. On my bus one morning a few days ago, i over hear 7 sixth graders talking about mw3, like it it was the Mandate of Heaven to buy it or something. when one of them mentions battlefield, they all start saying how battlefield sucks and how the multyplayer doesnt have any leveling and no blood. hen one of them says how they only have it for the ORIGINAL xbox, i realise they’re talking about bf2. So there are 7 mw3 customers who believe that a game from 2006 is the newest bf game, and they compare that to mw3.

Been a COD fan since COD2, my fav is COD4 (I still play it sometimes), but MW2 was the most disappointing game I’ve ever played. Then EA started to hype BC2 and I also tried its beta… not the best game ever but definitely beats MW2 and BO by FAR. And BF3 is simply amazing. I don’t even care about the sales anymore, I just wanted to get a fun, high quality game that I enjoy (just like COD4 – fun, enjoyable, revolutionary and it wasnt a low quality product if you ask me.) and I think I got what I wanted. Its unfair to say that just because its not available to buy on Steam, that the Steam users will only buy mw3. I’ve been using Steam for bout 3-4 years now and only decided bout the end of 2010 to buy all my now on steam. I was getting fed up buy a game in the shop then trying to install the game from the dvd/cd when it clearly ignores it and proceds to dowload the game instead. Yes, i will probably buy MW3 of steam at some stage possibly when its on a sale price. €59 is too much for a game which is really just an upgrade of blackops.

I only have the origin software on the machine so that i can play BF3. I bought all the other battlefield games originally from a store, for which at this stage are scratched or possibly lost, hence i got then from Steam.

BF3 fanboys are just a bad as COD fanboys.
Fanatics are bad, either way they sway.
COD did outsell BF3, get over it.
Before complaining about “noobtubes” “and spray ‘n’ pray”
Realize you have mortars and portable suns(flashlights)
I came from COD, since I did know MW3 would be rather the same game type, but while BF3 is pretty, the campaign couldn’t be more of a joke.
Just combine Black Ops campaign and Source Code, and you have the BF3 campaign.
Good game none the less, although I will not buy another BF game until I know how they prioritize balancing/glitch fixing pre launch. Since both do have glitches at start, IF is just faster at fixing them, and not once have I seen a balance patch for COD, ever.
