Battlefield players were quite upset over news that Battlefield 3 squad management was moved to Battlelog, forcing players to switch between the game and Battlelog in order to manage squads.
Luckily however, there are now some good news: DICE’s Barrie Tingle has posted on the Battlelog forums where he revealed that squad management will be available in-game in Battlefield 3. Tingle said, in an answer to a question regarding squads:
“In short answer form, yes you can browse and join squads through the squad screen and make private squads.”
The new in-game squad management won’t be updated into the beta, but will be available in the final game.

BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Even tho this is a good thing,,watch people complain.
anyone who does gets bitchslapped.
Sorry for the irrelevant reply, but to alert Bf3blog, another b-log update is being rolled out as we speak.
Now god forbid we get server browsing in-game after some more uproar. Makes no sense to have to ALT-TAB to a damn web browser just to join multiplayer games.
qqqq
In fact, its faster then a in-game menu.
I’m honestly not sure why people ever thought there wasn’t going to be an in game squad browser. I never saw an official announcement of this anywhere… Peeps be jumping to conclusions.
The only thing that I can see a problem is with only 4 people in a squad. To me this is a much bigger issue than where the browser is actually located/accessed. Why would you only put 4 in a squad? Just put 6 ffs. 6 can actually get something done. I’m talking on a 64 player map, 6 people are still just a drop in the bucket, but at least they have a chance to work together and have success against well defended positions…
Hilarious that people will shit their pants about insignificant BS like squad browser UI, but the major things, such as inadequate squad size have somehow become acceptable?
I think the concept is called “picking your battles” in my opinion we are all way off the mark here fussing about squad browser rather than squad size…
i don’t understand why so many people thumbed you down
Because they don’t like his post
Two monitors?
I play with 2,and I just move my mouse over and click “refresh” to find otehr servers in real time. I prefer the battlelog server find other in game browsing any day, it’s WAY faster.
Have you actually tried what you’re theorizing? Think about it for a second, just, try to imagine it….
THANK GOD!
GOD? THANK DICE!!!
DICE? DICE got bought out back in 2006, It’s EA now…
People, wake up, seriously. If DICE no longer existed, their Logo wouldn’t be on the Box Cover of every game they make. It would be just EA’s Logo. Seriously… They still exist as a Studio is Stockholm, the only thing that’s changed is that they’re owned by Electronic Arts now.
Legally, they’re called a Subsidiary. They still exist as a company, they’re merely no longer independent, since they’re owned by EA.
what Implied said, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are still companies even though they’re owned by Pepsi. It’s not like you’re going to Pepsi taco or Pepsi chicken land.
Thats great news. Tbh i was little afraid that one main feature of BF-Series has gone. But now im satisfied
HAPPINESS ABOUNDS!!! DICE listens to their users…unlike most devs.
bullshit!
NICE keep complaining PC guys, dice is hearing after all.
if we don’t complain, then we get a fucked game.
^ that
we already got a fucked game, we’re just trying to “un-fuck” it.
I don’t think Dice would leave us high and dry, not only is it stupid to piss off your fanbase, but it’s bad business. They have to listen to us and our feedback, as long as we give criticism constructively. Not “beta sucks gonna cancel my preorder if it doesnt have flying unicorns in the beta hurpdurp”
Wadda ya mean there’s no unicorns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAGGGGEEEEEE! That’s it, pre-order cancelled. Next thing you’ll be telling me that they weren’t going to include rainbows either!
Quadruple rainbows or GTFO!
Flying Unicorns are stupid anyway, the thing that will make BF3 awesome is that it has Dinosaurs…
MW3 doesn’t have dinosaurs.. I’m just saying~
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba- BOO-YA MOTHA F**KAS!! … is my reaction to this news.
This is awesome news! Now hopefully they reconsider the server browser, then we’ll be set.
I doubt they’ll do that, even if they wanted to, why would anyone use Battlelg, which imo is just another piece of DRM.
Still holding on to my retail PC preorder suckers ^^
I doubt they will, why would anyone use B-log then, they worked so hard to create and publicize it.
Because it’s a great tool without the server browser. Why did anyone use bf2tracker? Because it was awesome to see your stats and everyone elses. This has all those stats, and a social network.
Thank you for taking care of this!
Cheers this is the news i was waiting for to rest easy, now as long they fix most of the bugs and gun balance stuff its all set. Maybe we’ll get mod tools too (really if licensing is such a huge issue, have have ppl pay for a developer modkit DLC or something.)
“really if licensing is such a huge issue, have have ppl pay for a developer modkit DLC or something.”
Uh, what? No. Can you even imagine the Ragefest that would come of that if it was announced? People would see it as another EA Milking Tactic.
This is really good news, I guess the outcry from everyone got DICE’s attention.
Correction:
I guess the outcry from everyone got EA’s attention and they stumbled to fix their countless dev cum pub blunders.
Thank you EA, for forcing DICE to put in game squad management
I’ve used the previous server browsers DICE made and Battlelog is hands and above better.
No one has made a reasonable logical argument against the new browser format.
It’s fast and it works and I can integrate Teamspeak and other websites into my game experience
Fully agree with you on that matey. I like it personally, but that whole ‘restricted’ squad management in b-log debacle did have me worried there. It made no sense to NOT have it in-game. If they crack the ‘options’ menu thing (as in actually allowing you to change it without be ‘alive’ in the game) then I will be more then happy.
wondering why ppl keep complaining about it as well. Mayb its just not what they are used to and are afraid of change. In anycase when u go unto a server u tend to stay in that server for like hours so the small time it takes to aALT+TAB is miniscule and unimportant. Its even better than having to click ESC first and then scrolling with mouse to the Server browsing option and then clicking it and then have it generate a list each time u wish to do so. I like battlog for server browsing cus i can always have it up and wont necessarily have to regenerate the server list each time.
I guess that when you just ignore logic then it’s pretty easy to say that nobody has come up with a logical argument.
1. Why should people have to open a internet browser to find a server? No other games do this, it doesn’t make sense.
2. Using the internet browser allows people to bypass server passwords, which is a bad thing for people who want a private server.
3. People who are scraping the bottom of low end reqs would probably rather have their cpu and bandwith being used on the game, instead of origin and battlelog.
I haven’t heard of a single logical statement FOR battlelog, things I have heard is:
“Loading is FAST”-Yeah, it is, but it has nothing to do with battelog, it’s how the maps are set up, so an in game browser would load the map just as fast
“It’s not that bad”- Why would that even be an argument? Do we want things that just “aren’t bad” or do we want things that are good
“it’s nice to have all the stats and browser and everything in one place”- I agree, but it’d be nice if the GAME was in that same spot, battlelog separates the game from the stats, when we should have stats in game with more advanced stats on a site.
^ This. God, this. Battlelog is clunky as fuck and is nothing more than bait to draw in CoD players that don’t want to pay for Elite.
*that should read head and shoulders above…
On all platforms?
Consoles already have in-game squad management, so yes, all platforms.
Great news from great devs !
Oh dear Lord, thanks for this.
If DICE decided to do it via Battlelog ONLY, they would have dig their own grave. Battlefield is saved you guys! Hooray!
Am i the only one who noticed misguiding info in classes picture here ? recons don’t get C4, support does, as well as claymores.
One thing is sure… Squad management doesn’t work in the beta…. At least not on console
I still can’t get over how ridiculous the recon guy looks.
Also this is a very very very good thing to hear.
I still can’t get over the fact that the Medic Class was re-named “Assault” and the Assault Class was re-named “Support.”
And yet, the Icons remain the same. + for Assault/Medic, and Ammo for Support/Assault…. Bah!
What, it makes sense to name the Medic Assault and the actual Assault Unit something as lame as “Support”? Seriously?
This post made my day!
just wondering. why does the picture say m16a2 and in beta say m16a3? and awesome were getting this squad management.
thank you DICE, keep bringing good news
I love bitching here it gets something done!
THANK YOU DICE, And fuck you EA.
I don’t understand why people hate EA so much. Its just a publisher. Look at how many of your games are from EA or EA Games or EA Sports or whatever. Theres millions of people all over the world playing a ton of their games. Sounds exactly like what a good publisher should do.
Because the 18 to 21 year old demographic that largely plays FPS is mostly anti-corporatist, and so anti-culture is the normative culture on fansites for FPS games like Battlefield. In other words, the people on these message boards conform to popular opinion because they can’t think for themselves, since they aren’t real people yet because they haven’t gone through college.
