Battlefield 3 AMD
A few days ago we reported that Nvidia will release special drivers optimized for Battlefield 3, which will bring enhanced stability and performance for the upcoming beta.

Not to be outdone, rival graphics card maker AMD has announced that they too will be releasing special drivers for their Radeon graphics cards just in time for the Battlefield 3 beta. The new Radeon Catalyst drivers will be custom made for Battlefield 3, much like Nvidia’s drivers. Both drivers are set to be released next week, a day ahead of the beta which drops on September 27.

Nearly all the market, especially for gaming, is on a Windows OS. And I’m pretty confident all Sony products are made by some OEM, such as their TVs are. The only reason for people saying that is becuase it is a known fact that the current gen. of consoles are holding back games in many areas, most blatantly graphics.

I don’t know how “current” the current gen consoles are actually. Personally I am rather lost since I have checked my PS3 it has 3.2 GHz it is a bit more complicated than that but in essence it behaves like a single core processor. It has 256MB memory for the system and separate 256MB for the graphics. My gpu clocked at ~500 Mhz it varied a bit.
Frankly I have an 8 year old PC that is very similar. With a single core running at 3 GHz and 768MB of DDR RAM and 512MB video memory with the graphics clocking at ~600Mhz. The two should perform pretty much exactly the same as the memory on the PS3 is a bit faster.

An 80$ Graphics Card, a Dual-Core i5 Sandy Bridge and the most Basic Motherboard from Asus. Hard Drive is like 80$ for 1 TB, a CD Drive or not, a low-end PSU, and you’re set. A Machine like that could run Battlefield 3 on near-Minimum Graphics Settings, the same settings you’d be playing on if you had a Console. Difference is, with that 500$ PC, you could buy yourself a new Graphics Card next year, and profit, since you’d have better Graphics than a Console. Doh.

Good Question. Hm… Let’s see now. Maybe, just maybe, because instead of buying a Wanna-Be Mac, a year later you can upgrade the GPU and get better Graphics in the future, compared to the Console which is locked down as tight as a Mac, and which offers zero Graphics Upgrade Options except “sorry, wait until next Gen Console. Then dish out cash for that one.”

I know you can plug your my laptop to your tv to play games, but what if you have a desktop? And you can also use an xbox 360 controller to play games but battlefield won’t support xbox 360 controller. It’s better to just turn on your console, sit on the couch and start playing than bring you computer to your living room, plug in,start, download,it’s frustrating.(I used to do it but not anymore).Plus you need at least $1000 to buy a new gaming pc where you can play the same game on a $300 console.I had a $1800 gaming pc but I sold it and bought a new ps3(I already had an xbox 360)and bought a laptop for $600.

Love how console people always forget that part. They have a crappy computer and a console… as opposed to one sweet fully integrated gaming/computing machine. Let’s not forget, a console is just a specialized computer. So if you look at it that way all you really have is two crappy computers that you can’t upgrade and are therefore both destined for the landfill some day… PC isn’t for everyone, I didn’t think it was for me… I really got into gaming playing HALO with my friends on xbox… it took an epic game like BF2 for me to realize the joys of gaming on a pc. It wasn’t available on console so I had no choice but to switch to PC and I haven’t looked back since. Now I’m rocking a watercooled, overclocked, quad core sli rig I built myself. Not only will it bitch slap BF3 but my girlfriend thinks it’s sexy and it word processes to boot :)

actually i have played on a pc,

and you can listen to music on ps3 while playing a game, u just hit the ps button go to music and hit x on wat u want to listen to.

dual screen, ok just buy a second ps3 and it still costs about as much as a a decent gaming computer.

the point with consoles is that you dont have to upgrade the hardware, all you have to do is buy the new console wen it comes out. u spend money once and dont have to worry about upgrading your hardware every couple years.

why would you need to change the video settings? most games run at 720 or 1080p, and on screens less than 30″, you cant even tell the difference between 720 and 1080p.

Consoles are affordable gaming machines, the air force picked up on that and built a supercomputer out of them. cant post links so just search “air force supercomputer out of ps3″

thats like when the ipad came out and it couldnt multitask so some people would actually buy a second ipad to do it.

or like saying, i can make my car run twice as fast if i put two gas pedals in it!

even if you did buy a second ps3 it wouldnt combine the computing power and wouldnt play the same game.

the point of dual screen is game on one and something else on the other, u take 2 ps3s, play a game on 1 and do something else like browse bf3blog for the latest on bf3, the exact same thing as a dual screen computer, just cheaper.

and of course ibm can make a better supercomputer, the point is the air forces ps3 one was 10-20 times cheaper than an equivalent one made by lets say… IBM! thats why they did it

First of all, you wouldn’t be playing Battlefield, or any FPSs with Dual Screens, the Crosshairs/Scopes would be exactly in the middle and would most likely be covered by the Bezels, so yeah. No.

You’d have 3 Screens. So what, you’d buy 3 PS3s? Besides, that’s not the point. With EyeFinity you get rid of Tunnel Vision, you get to see people coming at you from the side, its useful.

If you have Dual Screens you should be only Gaming on 1 Screen, so you might as well just buy an iPad and plug it into your HDTV instead of a second Monitor.

@Goalieguy, I have a PS3 (Never use it), and you can’t multitask. It asks you to exit the game before you can do that.
And Dual Screen is not only to do something else on the other. You can watch videos, check on a certain program while you gaming, check your Resource usage and so on…
Not to game or do something on different systems… that is not dual screen, that is a totally different system. They are not connected in any way.
And if the consoles don’t get upgraded soon, these new games just won’t be able to run on consoles, unless they take down the graphics… ALOT! And it doesn’t look like new consoles will be out soon…
And you have played on a PC before, it couldn’t of been a gaming PC. If it was, and you played BC2 on it, you would ditch your PS3!
          I own both a Xbox 360 and a PS3, I used them a lot until I bought a gaming PC…

@Impy, That is not the case with Dual Screens. Games don’t stretch onto your secondary screen, unless the game allows “Secondary Adapters” like on Supreme Commander where your Map is on the secondary screen and your main battle is on the primary.
Anyway… you need 3 screens with the same resolution for the game to stretch over all the screens. And believe me, it requires LOADS of Graphics Card power to run 3 screens.

Yeah takes at least 2 GPUs to run 3 Monitors, I know. Never played with 2 though, interesting. At most I’ve plugged a Monitor into my Laptop, but that just Mirrors it. Seem some vids of people doing MMOs on Dual Screens figured it was the case across the board, but just like Games need true EyeFinity Support guess they need support for 2 Monitor Setups as well.

@Golieguy The reason why you argue for is more to the fact that you don’t know any better than to that you prefer the way it works. It truly is not cheaper to have a console, but about the same. Secondly improved graphics and processing means a lot more than games, you render anything better than you would on a console ( multi screens are either mirrored images or merged, so essentially you get a higher res screen), whether it is a video or RAW images, or uncompressed music (consoles don’t read them as far as I know), and you is to do a ton more stuff like work and hobbies. Hell, I need an absolute powerhouse, in gaming terms, for some of the stuff I need do and compering it to actual workstation (PCs meant for work) it is cheap and rubbish.
A 600$ spent today would really go far into making a good gaming PC, but when we say that we really mean a good PC.

PS. The supercomputer made out of a PS3s is not uncommon as PS3 pack IBM cell processors, so you can buy up a lot and essentially hack them thoroughly for their processors. Creating a cloud of them brings a lot of power, however tapping into the PCs scientists usually get better results simply because PCs can handle more data whilst maintaining similar or in some cases better calculation. Also it rarely need any hardware or even software as sites like Amazon normally runs test programs using their visitors – like the recent monkey on typewriter experiment. Similarly Steam’s cloud takes some of your power to contribute to everybody including yourself.

So any retard knows that FPS games were originally made for PCs and not consoles. Yes 3rd person shooters, racing games and turn based strategy are generally more fun on a controller. Fps and rts games on the other hand require that extra precision and full range of buttons to really be the best.

That’s the main argument a console gaming peasant can have: “Generalization of Everything.”

Yesterday, I wrote a comment about A FEW SPECIFICALLY console boys, and came one with this: “right, EVERY console owner is a kid”

Some of them know, if we sit down and discuss in detail, they have no flexibility to expand the discussion much.

YES, both have some advantages and disadvantages. Every sane person could admit it. But likewise, every sane person can admit that Consoles are inferiors in many aspects, especially since they don’t get upgraded. Anyway, I’m tired of. Especially when they say keyboards and mice are crap, like one above, but he’s using it to troll us.

Another example of a PC elitist. Why are you putting us down for playing FPS games on our “8 year old consoles”? Some people can’t afford to be a PC gamer and play on console for less money and quality. We still have fun even though we aren’t getting the real deal. FPS games aren’t only for PC.

How much did you spend on your Console? 300? And the PC you’re using to type that comment right now? 300? 500? With 600$ you can buy a Mediocre Gaming Rig + Gamepad, plug it into your TV and still have better Graphics than the Console you’re playing with right now.

You keep whining about how expensive PCs are and yet you fail to realize that the money you just spent on yours could have bought you better (and upgradable) Graphics if you hadn’t bought a Console with the rest of your money.

I payed $600 for my current laptop and couldn’t even run the fucking Alpha… YOu have got to be out of your mind to say that $600 can even play Battlefield 3 at minimum settings. Just spend that $600 on a PS3 or Xbox and be able to play at High settings with 30 fps. God, I swear some PC players are just fucking ignorant to their own surroundings… I own a gaming rig, and I hate the fuckign keyboard and mouse… of course you can do more, but that’s just it… you HAVE to do more with your hands. With the Xbox and the PS3, everything is all there. Yeah we may not get as good as graphics, but I mean seriously… Go look at BC2 Xbox or PS3 gameplay vs BC2 PC gameplay… The ONLY difference, is that BC2 on the PC can run at 60fps or higher. But WHO CARES? Is it really worth stressing yourself out, bending over oyur keyboard like a fucking hunchback or a troll? I’d rather lay back in my lazychair with my controller in my hands where every control is right there already pre set for me, instead of buying a controller for my gaming rig and having to set it up my self, and smoke some weed or have a beer and talk with my buddies and play BC2 all night long. You can’t have a life and own a gaming rig, it just doesn’t work out like that. It’s either have a girlfreind and freinds and own a console, or be a fuckign 40 year old virgin looking at catalogs loooking for the next $250 graphics card to replace the one you just bought 6 months ago.

          Console = Simplicity

PC = let’s face it… Nerdiness, and OCD.

So yeah, I’d rather pay $600 for the new console, and not have to worry about paying that much for a very long time, instead of Upgrading my PC for $300+ every year just so it can play one game at maximum settings at 60fps. I’ll stick with my xbox. *used to have a ps3… long story. :P *

And like I said, I own a gaming rig, to be honest, it set me back a pretty penny. But I also own a little Dell laptop for the family to use. My gaming rig has cost me about $2,500 in total, and that’s just over that last 2 years. It started out as about $1,100, but it got outdated quick. So I’m not being one sided on this issue, don’t get me wrong, BF2 was fucking amazing with 32 players on Strike at Karkand, *which was my favorite amount of players to play on my favorite map* but it got old very quickly, and the console just gives me that satisfaction of being able to say, “Wow, I can play this at very good graphics, at a solid frame rate, and still being able to play with all of my freind who play the same thing as I do, and then meeting them later at a party to chat about the amazing games we had…”

at ϞKRI||ƩX. You said you spent $600 on a laptop and can’t play BF3. Yea are you stupid!!! There are only a few gaming laptops that could, because of the size of the laptop and heat created by graphics cards it is hard to have a laptop to run top end games. This is why we are talking about Gaming rigs. This is exactly why you should stay with consoles. You are clueless!!!! Its so damn funny!!

@ϞKRI||ƩX The animals advertised as “gaming” laptops don’t exist because they are grossly overpriced. So are pre-built machines which is why companies that do that are thriving. It is such an easy market like the pharmacy. Most people have no clue what they are buying. For instance a pharmacist can sell you some vitamin A that has gone trough an oven for an hour for 5 times the price, in the same way large chains can sell pre-built machines that are ludicrously overpriced (my build is at ~2000$ Alienware’s flagship builds at ~5000$ fall short of performance, quote “let the bragging begin” ) . The only difference is mine has no useless liquid cooling (we are way past the era of when that was a requirement since CPUs and GPUs have gotten a lot more efficient) and no excess of LED lights and other bling.

I’m planning to blow 5000$, roughly translated into 3.8K Euros into upgrading my Gaming Rig next year. New CPU, Motherboard, GPU, Triple-27″ Monitor EyeFinity Setup, and much more. Lot of people will call that overkill. I don’t, because I know the advantage EyeFinity brings to the playing field, an advantage that when playing Hardcore Mode on BC2 I sorely enjoyed having while playing on a friend’s Rig, and I miss not having on my own. Yet.

At the same time however, I know that for 600$ (since I already have a 50″ HDTV) I can buy myself a Gamepad, an older gen GPU, a low-end Dual Core i5 Sandy Bridge CPU, a mediocre Motherboard, a 300 Watt PSU, a 1TB HDD, a CD Drive that reads Blu-Ray and a Case which will be ugly as shit but will still have better airflow and Temperatures than a Console. Then I’ll put everything together, stick the HDMI Cable into my HDTV, and still have better Graphics than your 300$ Console + 300$ PC put together. Although, I’d skip the Gamepad and go for Mouse/Keyboard anyway.

Know why I don’t? Because I prefer to spend my time in front of a 3-Way 27″ HD Monitor EyeFinity Setup on my Desk instead of on my Couch. And the Dual GPU that’ll be powering those 3 Monitors, actually, my whole setup will last me 3 solid years without a single upgrade necessary, full-out DX11 + Ultra Settings. Settings you will never play on because your Console doesn’t have the power to play them. And sure, next year you’ll dish out another 300$ for the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox 720, and for a while you’ll enjoy having equal Graphics power as a PC (excluding SLi/CrossFire PC Setups) and then, oops. You’ll fall behind. Again. Just like your PS3, or your Xbox 360 has done now.

And while it might not happen that soon, since Microsoft might not be dishing out DX12 with Windows 8, at some point, the new DX will come out, and you’ll fall behind. Instantly. Because you can’t upgrade. And then, once again, Developers will be forced to compromise on Graphics for their Console Ports.

        - Because that’s just how it is.

So what if everyone needs the next new thing? That’s what powers innovation and advancement of technology. The same logic you’re trying to fight is the same one you’re guilty of too. Why does he have to spend $5000? Becuase he wants to. Why did I spend nearly as much? Becuase I want to. Did you have to spend $300 or any money on a console? No. But you wanted to.

Consoles are fine, I can care less about them. But it IS A KNOWN fact that they are holding back said advancement of technology. If Microsoft and Sony would finally release the new systems, stuff would quiet down for awhile.

I (for one) don’t need “every new thing,” I’m spending 5K only because I’m building a whole machine from scratch. Last time I bought a Desktop was in ’06, after a couple of years I started to travel so I switched to Laptops. Now I can finally switch back to Desktops, so I’m building from scratch. Its easier, but its more expensive. In the long term however, I’ll cost me less.

I’ll be set for 2-3 years. Then I’ll spend some cash upgrading my GPU, CPU and Motherboard, and I’ll be set, again. Of course, a Hard Drive could crash or something could break, but that could happen to a Console too. Everything else will probably stay, unless 25xx Resolution Monitors become Mainstream in the upcoming years or something.

If you go instead for a 600$ PC instead of a Console and a 300$ PC, you’ll have Mediocre Hardware, and you’ll be upgrading it around once a year. Possibly less, possibly more. And you get to keep the Gamepad if you believe that Mouse and Keyboards aren’t for Gaming (funny, people used to say that when we were using Joysticks too, and yet here we are now…).

If you go for a 300$ PC and a 300$ Console, you’ll probably still have a Square 4:3 Ratio Monitor (unless you use your TV), and a Console with 6 year old Hardware which you can’t upgrade.

Battlefield 3 will look fine to you, but that’s the problem. It’ll look fine, it won’t look great. You’ll see most of what Frostbite 2 can do, but not all of it, because your Hardware is too old for it.

Did you know that even today the PS3 has sold less than the PS2? Yeah. The PS2 sold I believe around 150 Million, more than any other Console in History so far. The PS3 had just barely broken 51.8 Million Wordwide last time Sony announced sales a couple of weeks back.

I dont get it, Why do people flame eachother over the latforms? We are playing the same game after all -.-

I have a $1000 PC and I can say that some people just dont care about graphics or how modern their systems are. My friend bought his PS3 slim for $250 and he is equally happy with his machine. There are however differences that we both see and they are:

PC´s are more hardcore due to the fact that you cant buy a perfect gaming rig, you have to build it yourself from scratch.

          Consoles have generally worse graphics

Consoles are more fun and social in the sence that you dont need 2 consoles to play with 2 players (split screen <3)

PC´s will always have better hardware and software in the long run

PC´s are more useful than a console but when it comes to games specifically its just a matter of taste. I like FPS on PC´s because im from the "CS 1.5" generation so to speak, but I like my racing games on my Xbox 360.

There are lots of things but consoles and PC´s are two different things with remotely identical purposes.

Like I said, most of the things will last beyond 2-3 years. Unless a PSU breaks down or a Hard Drive crashes, things that could also happen to a Console, then in 2-3 years I’ll simply upgrade my GPU, and my CPU/Motherboard so its not bottle-necking my GPU, and I’ll be done. The rest stays, unless 25xx Resolution Monitors become Mainstream or something.

I have no reason to buy a new SSD, PSU, CD Drive, Case, Water Cooling Set, Monitors, Cables, etc. each time I upgrade one component. I spend 5000, then 2-3 years later I upgrade 3 pieces and I’m set.

Consoles are like Laptops. Or like Macs if you like. You buy it, but you can barely upgrade it.Change the Hard Drive, sure. But that’s usually about it. Gaming Rigs on the other hand, you can upgrade any tiny part of that you want, at a time.

Again Goalie, there is no logic as to why to spend $5000 or any amount. It’s purely all a luxury. None of us had to buy a PC, xbox, etc. but we did because we wanted to and had the money to be able to do so with ease.

And don’t bring the debt crisis into this. That’s only happening because of selfish idiots who don’t do their job and the idiots that just keep digging their head into the dirt to ignore it. If more people were actually spending vast amounts of money and were able to afford it no problem, there would be more jobs out there because there would be more money out there.

Can everyone shut the fuck up already about consoles and PCs? So many people give the PC community a bad reputation because all they can do is bitch and whine about consoles, BF3 is using PC as the lead platform and even then some people find a way to complain.
It’s as simple as this: some people like playing on their console because it gives you fantastic quality for your money plus you get exclusive games, some people like playing on PC because it gives them that extra edge on games like BF3. In the end, the quality between the two is not even anything dramatic, so can people get over it already? You’re not more of a man for playing BF3 on PC nor are you less of a man for playing it on consoles. It’s a seriously pathetic argument to have. Buy the game, enjoy the game and be happy that DICE created such a masterpiece.

I don’t see why consoles get so much hate. They’re easy to use, don’t need hardware updates and make for a more casual experience, such as having a few of your mates all playing because all you need is a few controllers and you’re good to go. Sure the graphics aren’t so great, but it’s still fun. Believe me, i’d love a good gaming PC, but I don’t have the time or knowledge to build one, or the money to buy one, seeing as im only 15, going on 16 (btw before you’s rip on me, 15 is the age limit for the equivalent to your M rating, over here in Australia)

Why consoles get so much hate? Because they stagnate progression…Naughty Dog are the only ones that keep pushing the limits of those antique scrap piles.

How is technology supposed to evolve if most of the developers prefer releasing mediocre corridor shooters for a quick buck? And then they’re ported to the PC from an inferior platform hooray!

And then you get games developed on PC like BF3 (and Crysis back in ’07) which looks like alien technology…

      I hate this gen.
