BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
DICE has posted another Battleblog entry, this time it concerns unlocks, awards and persistence in Battlefield 3. As many know, Battlefield 2 was the first game to really offer a deep persistence mode, with awards, unlocks and stats that would keep players busy for hundreds of hours.
For Battlefield 3, DICE reveals that the game will feature “more than 10 times the hardware unlocks spread over weapons, weapons attachments, gadgets, and a huge unlock tree for vehicles alone”. Unlocks will be given based on the class you play as and the weapon you use, so if you use a weapon a lot, you’ll get more unlocks for it, same goes for classes.
Regarding awards, the pins have been substituted for ribbons, which will be given out each round (e.g. 7 kills with assault rifles to get the Assault Rifle Ribbon), while it will also feature BF2 style medals, for example, the US service medal is awarded after playing 100 hours as the US Marines. Ranks will be as plentiful as in Bad Company 2, which had 50 ranks in total.
It has also been confirmed that Engineers will get an anti-air rocket launcher, and that Jets will get the choice between air to air missiles, or air to ground missiles/bombs.
This is awesome. It took me a while to get all the medals in BC2 but now I’m gonna enjoy even more earning each medal!

Prepare for a CoD like MP achievement experience, where every 30seconds you the player gets bombarded with obnoxious noises notifying you earned, leveled up or unlocked something. Safe to assume this because BC2 pins were easy to obtain and haxing 10x more would just add onto the end-game commendation museum.

I really hope they do keep the onscreen notifications to minimum, knowing DICE I’m sure they will, COD style notifications every few minutes would get very obnoxious

I hope they spread the weapons, etc more across the available levels.
The leveling speed at BC2 is fine (only at lvl35 myself) so hope they keep it really slow.
Outstanding, can’t wait to collect them all, but how does the anti air missile work?
I’d imagine it will function something like the Stinger from BF2, only man-portable.
I remember they had the portable AA gun in 2142, but it never worked, as it was so glitchy.
It worked just fine, with the ability to hit tanks, but with reduced damage.

god i hope they have a training mode. its hard enough for me to fly a helicopter, but a jet?
these games become too serious. its hard to learn them when you’re pressured into battle.
I thought the fun part of vehicles(especially air vehicles) was learning how to master them.. I always get a laugh seeing someone crash a heli into the water or mountain if everyone were experts you wouldn’t have those moments

i think its more important that you have a team you can count on, it makes the game more exiting. instead you end up with players who waste their teammates, drive over noticeable mines and dive their helis in the ocean.
it gets old when you looking for a serious game.
of course, you can eliminate that if you have a platoon.
Hopefully there will be a bot mode.
theres a campaign for a reason, they’ll be tutorials for everything, like in bc2,except for helicopters : ( and there is a boat part in bc2 campaign except it is very very short, I hope they bring more use out of the boats,
i will spend most of my gun time with g3 or gc36 or xm8(most likely not happening due to this thread ( http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7214965.page ) dice likes to know from their fans, although to a limit.

damnit… i got pissed when people used acogs on a sniper rifle… not only is it for noobs because then cant quickscope (just admitt it.. when someone uses a acoc on a sniper, they use it to quickscope more easily) with the original scope, they also selects the acog instead of more important agressive recon specs as explosive upgrade or lightweight package… but people have their own way to play… (sigh)
Awesome stuff. Hope it’s not like bc2 where you could unlock every weapon by around lvl 20. Although it doesn’t sound that way so I’m happy.
The training mode is the campaign.
u cant test every weapon with customization tho… so its limited
It’d be kinda cool if there was a “shooting range”-type feature, where you can test different weapons and attachments to see how they handle. Get a sense for recoil, accuracy, that sort of thing. It’d certainly be easier than trying to figure it all out in the field.

why can’t jets have both aa and ag missiles ? that worked in bf2 and most aircraft today are multirole fighters anyway.

Besides, I think “multi-role” is misleading. For the most part they fill one role at a time.
if they would load the plane with ordnance just for a run so the pilot would have to rearm after discharging it the plane would not be so OP. In BF2 it wasn’t very overpowered, you could shoot down a plane in no time.
Well, and when I’m talking about multi-role I’m actually talking about the plane being able to defend itself against other aircraft. If fixed-wing aircraft would have 4 bombs that discharge at the same tame (so the pilot would be forced to get back to base for a rearm) and 2 aa missiles to protect itself from enemy aircraft while RTB-ing the jet wouldn’t be overpowered at all.(this would be good as a perk: the pilot chooses between more bombs, more missiles, or both)
i’d choose both….. WAIT NO!… just more bombs please >.>
I have to agree wth that. Except i feel the actual jet should have these options, not the player. Adding vehicle perks reminds me of COD5 too much, and i like how the A10s worked in BF2: Armored Fury. Maybe we could see A10s, and some jets with only AA missles, providing a more team based flying style. A10s bomb, and the faster jets protect them and give air superiority.

A tweet by KM Troedsson, the world will be seeing the first footage of conquest at this year’s Gamescom in Germany (August 17 – 21.) #Jets, which have not been seen since one of the first Battlefield 3 trailers will also be shown at the event. No details on what elements of conquest or what jets we’ll be seeing at the event, but we’re expecting Battlefield 3 to impress us once again.

medals, you mean, and yeah i want them too. I got an old, but not tattered army jacket that i use for paintball, and having that marksman medal would scare my opponents before the game started… muahahah!
from the hip or shoulder?? I got a marksmen medal too, although with how heavy it can be with my hands i shorta do it cowboy style, use your writing hand for accuracy and use or other hand for speed with any gun, use plant-eclipse
Forcing everything into a tree and not being able to have air to air missiles and bombs at the same time sounds bad to me. I’m going to have to have at least 2 soldiers to completely experience all aspects of the game or more? I sure hope not.
Portable anti-air rocket launcher, omg no! The anti-air rocket in 2142 was a PITA, always hits and never misses. That was my experience. I hope it’s more balanced or this is going to be bad for pilots alike.
I’d buy BF3 if it were a 95% remake of BF2. Frostbite 2 makes it worth it.
