We’re just getting started with E3, and Battlefield 3 is one of the main events here — and of course, the main reason we’re here. We got some new Battlefield 3 information, this time, concerning the multiplayer classes. For Battlefield 3, the 4 classes have received somewhat of an overhaul. Here’s the breakdown of the new classes in Battlefield 3:
Assault/Medic
The Assault and Medic a classes have been combined now, where the Assault class can either chose to heal/revive teammates, or you can opt for a grenade launcher instead of the revive kit, if you want more firepower.
Support
The Support class is now the one handing out ammunition, and can also provide covering fire. You can mount your LMG and if fire in the direction of the enemy, you’ll get special bonus points for providing covering fire for your teammates. You can also select an assault rifle with a flashlight for the dark parts of maps (like tunnels), instead of the LMG.
Engineer
The Engineer retains much of his role and load-out from Bad Company 2, you’re equipped with rocket launchers against enemy armor, and a repair tool to fix friendly vehicles, and a sub machine gun.
Sniper
The Sniper has the same role as in previous Battlefield games, and is armed with a sniper rifle, C4 explosives, and spotting gear.
We’ll have more details as we get some hand-on time with Battlefield 3 here at E3.

BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
YES! now that sounds more balanced and better than bad company 2! hated medics having an lmg, completely unrealistic.
Not what I was expecting but I’m definitely willing to give thie new class system a go. MORE MULTIPLAYER FOOTAGE!!!
I hope theres a way to tell if the medic/assualt has the healing gear or a grenade launcher. Or else you might follow someone around the map expecting a health pack, but meanwhile he doesn’t even have it selected.
Hadn’t thought that….. I hope so, too.
I reckon a cross/plus sign will appear above hhis head and
On Ur minimap if u call for a medic
I think that… they should separate the assault and medic classes :\
bahhh… I think that the assault/medic class will carry a medkit as default, the elegible stuff will be only the granade launchers and the defib.
I have to say, I knew there wouldn’t be as many classes as bf2, but I like the classes they went with. Much better than having lmg medic and support assault.
Yep, at this point, it’s an improvement.
the community also screamed for this ^^
I really liked the system in 2142 so this is good news for me. Without command buildings to blow up, a dedicated special forces classes really isnt necessary.
I like what they did with the Assault and Support, looks a lot better (on paper) than in BC2.
So, just the 2142 classes, with more versatility added to support, and without a carbine for the sniper class.
Best news for me today, tought I had to play the medic with an LMG
i’ll be playing assault and support surely
When will we get more info!!
i would have maybe preferred 5 classes, medic and assault separated. but i like that they returned the support class and didnt give medic lmgs. overall i think it is a good choice and happy they listen to their fans
Yes!! Just like 2142!! The best game in the series. Well classes wise. Nah that game was the best. Well done Dice, made me reeally Happyyyy so far with the numerical health bar and now this update
So now there is one class that doesn’t require help from other classes and one class is a complete mismatch. What is the reasoning behind this ridiculous idea. BC2 had it right less ammo on medic and sniper rifles as late unlock for recon would have been perfect.
sounds goodd
seems good, but in reality (pub lobbys) it will suck, support spraiing non stop with their lmg’s with infinite ammo and as a assault I will rund dry in 2 minutes en have trouble finding ammo at the frontline. This will also support “rambo reviving” since a offencve class get gets the medkits and defib.
Think won’t really work out, just try to get ammo in bc2, now the same thing with health packs.
Also why do supports need ammo? the already have 200 ammo in their gun and 200 spare, assault only has 30/60 and ammo upgrade takes up your optics slot.
theyll have a beta, well find out how it all works there. maybe well discover it isnt set up right and Dice will fix it
I like what they’ve done to the classes, but i would prefer assault and medic to be 2 seperate classes, though I guess it wont be all that bad, because from what ive read, you can opt for either having a healing/revive pack or grenade launcher, and ill definately be going with the revive kit, because i like my M16 without a chunky grenade launcher attatched to it, but thats just me ahah. but overall multiplayer footage = win, new class setup, reasonable, would prefer BF2 classes but set up how they have them now, if that makes sense, unlocks, from what ive read, should be interesting, but we’ll all just haveto wait until theres some more press on the stuff they havent yet showed over in LA at E3, but at the moment im hyped, so kudos to the guys at EA and DICE so far on there efforts on BF3…
a huge thing is communication, not just with your squad but team, im really curious as to what Dice is going to implement as far as communication as a team goes. Also another cool thing is BF3 will have its very own post production team always working on improvements =) COD has no such thing
What? I don’t see your point. Assault/Medic needs ammo and support (for taking down enemy tanks too), Engineers need ammo and health packs, Support needs health packs and anti-armor, Sniper needs ammo, health packs and support (for CQ), and a sniper can also spot people (probably) and provide long range fire support. Every class needs each other.
That comment was for MK. Reply didn’t work…
yes recon can spot thats confirmed, Recons big help is intel, i wonder if recon will still get mortar srikes or someting different
