Battlefield 3 will feature four classes, Assault, Recon, Engineer and Support, which have been tweaked a bit compared to Bad Company 2. PlayStation 3 magazine PSM3, in their latest issue, takes a look at Battlefield 3 and provides an excellent graphic of the classes in Battlefield 3 (which you can see above).
Thanks for tip, Ron!

BF3 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
yes thats a joke… why they wouldn’t just call it medic when that is what it is is beyond me, unless there is a grenade launcher unlock, that kit is essentially the same half useless medic kit from bf2
i guess that… assault isn’t a synonymous with granade launchers… be a assault means that you are made to be in the frontline, no matther if you have a medkit or a m203… you’re an assault lol
you can either choose between a grenade launcher or medic equipment
u always have a medic kit. u decide between the launcher or defibrillators
If that’s true then I can live with that. As a matter of fact, that should work out pretty well.
yea, sry my bad, i posted the wrong thing above
they shouldve called it an assault medic, since the job is half reviving and giving kits, and half assaulting players
Yeah, and called the M203 the Assault Demo
Useless medic kit? You didn’t play tournaments?
Seems stupid for assault to have a med kit. Assault needs the ammo and support needs the med kit hence the ‘support’
No no no, it was so annoying in Bad Company 2 when the people who were supposed to be reviving and throwing med kits were just sitting and shooting with their M60 from a safe distance, miles away from action.
sooo annoying… theres the best balance to support four classes, in my point. now lmg’s will be there for what they’re made… cover your mates… and will be a specific class for ammo giving (usually, when i want ammo in bc2, i’ve to ran out an search for some assault that remembers that have a ammo box and what the assault class are made for in bc2…
Yeah, hardly anyone did their jobs.
Assault people will just leave their squad and try to be a hero but ends up with a bullet in the head.
Engineers would stay with squad and stay far away from friendly vehicles.
Medics will either stay with squad, or branch off and stay with recons and get distant kills instead of giving med packs.
Recons would go to extreme distant place and just kill people, but not help the squad by throwing down motion sensors
I think it’s better this way.
I’m Assault all the way (sometimes Engineer) with my M416 or M16.
I can’t stand shooting with LMGs but I really want to participate in reviving mates on the frontline
This game is gonna be epic. PC gaming in it’s full glory! Have been waiting for it since the exciting release of Crysis 1!
This isn’t bad company, this is battlefield. The sooner people recognize that the better.
This, 1000x this. I hate when people assume that this is a sequel to Bad Company 2 and not Battlefield 2.
I don’t think you really understand what “support” means…..support meaning supporting/suppressive fire, to cover and support the front lines men. These are the machine gunners. Thats what “support” is referring to.
Giving Assault med kits is perfect because they have a less powerful gun, and they’re at the front lines, presumably where the med kits will be needed, and not far back where the support squad is.
Assault is on the front lines. They can choose to be more assault like with a grenade launcher, or they can choose to be a combat medic. I have a cousin who is a combat medic with the Green Berets. This is more realistic. The support guy has a more important support role now to work with the assault guys rather than be a long range spawn point because he was required to keep the assault guys healed at all times. That MG becomes practically worthless when its on your back.
Assault/Medic is best combination yet in the battlefield series’. I think you will grow to like it more when your support class is able to suppress the enemy and pin them down while you work to flank and outgun the opposition. The suppressing in this game is going to be really nice tactic and more realistic but good for the support gameplay.
BF3 is going to be so much a better team play game because of these new changes IMHO. Looking forward to it.
I dunno, it kinda makes sense to me. The assault class is designed to be in front of the action where most of the casualties are taking place, and the support class sounds like it’s supposed to hang back out of the line of fire and provide suppressive fire. Seems logical for the defib to be where the action is, that way the support class can cover the assault class while he revives. I think it’ll work pretty well.
my thoughts exactly
Skeptics should relax because BF2142 already proved the assault/medic combo works extremely well. A nice twist was that players could customize their unlocks to emphasize either assault or medic if they wanted, and hopefully DICE again allows that in BF3. Either way, I’m glad to see the combo return.
You can have the defibs OR a 40mm grenade launcher. Not both.
Which is why there is actually 5 classes not 4.
Defib= medic
Noob tube= assault
still 4 classes, just ur able to choose ur play style, as u r with recon, bolt action or semi auto
I dont see why they couldn’t have just made an extra class called medic, making it identical to assault but having medic specific unlocks for playing as that class. It would make the game feel bigger, having 5 classes rather than four and would stop the disappointment felt if you play assault/medic purely for the medic side of it and work your ass off only to unlock some useless (for a medic) under-barrel attachment that will never be used by you. Also the revive needs to take time to perform, otherwise there will be squads of medics who just revive each other over and over again instantly while under fire like in BC2. and it would be useful if the medics shock paddles didnt magically jump 3-4 feet to revive people, especially through cover etc becuase it just makes no sense to kill a guy and have a medic who is 4 feet away from him instantly revive him at full health. They should play a quick 1 second animation where the medic actually crouches beside the dead player or something.
Oh and medics without LMG’s is something I completely agree with. It splits the medics class into two totally seperate play styles which only discourages teamwork IMO.
When revived, you start in the prone position, blurred vision, and have no weapon. After a moment, you’re back in the action, but not with a 100% health, maybe 80 – 90%.
I love it!
EA try to balanced a squad-based gameplay with 4 members in 1 squad
“Assault/Engineer/Support/Recon” that’s all
if you need to split for more classm you must change the squad limit to 5 first.
32 / 5 = 6 squads , 4 non-members
but
32 / 4 = 8 squads
32/5=6, 2 non-members, i take your point, but your better use the calc next time
… jokes aside… i agree with your point.
I’ve readed somewhere that the Engineer starts standard with ironsight and flashlight!
And this: there’s three slots on every weapon so you can clip things on like a flashlight or flash suppressor, tons and tons of things”
Now that is awesome if it is true. I’m all about attachments on my weapons.
I want to point out that the Assault class was the least played class of BF2, and until BC2, assault never had ammo boxes, that was the support class’s role. Assault is basically a Medic/Assault hybrid from BF2, especially since, if you remember, the default faction loadouts for both were the same gun except assault had a GL and medic had medic stuff.
@Guest: which is why medic + G36E was the most used combo of BF2. Assault is a useless kit, unless you are into dying all the time then go for it, be my guest. I rarely use gls, no need to since I can drop 3-4 people on an m-16 clip.
I’m a die hard Battlefield fan and I love this class set up. I just hope there is no Carl Gustav equivalent in BF3…
or at least… they wont create a upgrade that gives you eight missiles -.-
The Support Character looks AWESOME!
I like the details they’ve put into the different classes.
@Daniel: You’re totally right. This class setup is finaly very close to BF2′ classes (how it should be, as its a direct sequel to BF2).
The support is back to what he was and better (LMG + Ammopack). The Assault/Medic class is acutally exactly how it was in BF2. In BF2 he was as you said basicly the Assault class w/o GL (same rifle!), but with medic equipment.
This setup worked extremly well, and better than in BFBC2.
As you can opt out GL instead of medic equipment for there are basicly 2 classes (BF2′s Assault and BF2′s Medic).
BF2′s Engineer and Antitank have been fusioned in one class, what like in BFBC2 was an improvment compared to BF2. BF2′s Spec Ops class has been devided between the Recon (Sniper) class (C4) and the new Engineer class (carabines). The improvement of the BF3 Engineer class compared to BFBC2 is that he is now not forced anymore to have a silenced primary weapon (+ he looks now similar to BF2′s Spec Ops class).
It seems the BF3 Recon class has now been ripped off his Ghillie Suit (from BF2 and BFBC2). In addition to new sniping mechanics he should be now much more balanced than in BFBC2. It is however possible that the Recon might get the Ghillie Suit through an unlock as an equipible item (but I doubt it). Question is also what the new spotting “drone ” will be like.
it’s looks good, but that assault class having a med kit seems a bit odd:S
what about claymore ?
Why don’t they just call it Call of the Battlefield and be done with it. First it was the maps squeezes in the BC series and now they are slowly making the classes and team play irrelevant. I have never once seen a support player just hanging around at the back laying down cover fire lol.
maps are HUGE in this game, team play has been improved instead of lmg’s and medpacks killing everything, so idk wat ur talking about…
have any idea of what are you talking about ??, off course not, the maps are huge, and the gameplay is teamplay-rewarding
one question here, amazon.co.uk got the specact kit as preorder bonus too, but it says only 4 codes per costumer (“One code will be issued per unit ordered up to a maximum of four codes per customer”), but i preordered 5 copies, which is the maximum amount per costumer, wtf why only 4 codes?

Give me a code for the engineer plz
isn’t it supposed to say m16a4, not a2?
actually thats correct. the m16a2 is the original m16 variant with a fixed handle and no rail for attachments. the m16a4 is the latest and most used version, difference is the removal of the fixed handle with a front rail to mount scopes and the 3 barrel rails for attachments. it came a little later after the, u know it, m16a3, which was a fully automatic version of the m16a2. but u r correct in saying that is the incorrect one bc that is clearly the m16a4 variant due to its rail mount capabilities
Theres different models and versions of the m16
I like that they didnt give the recon a ghilli suit by default. I am going to guess that with shorter range(Marksman rifles), there will be no ghilli but with longer range sniper or counter sniper rifles, there will be a ghilli suit.
Perhaps they’ll offer Ghillie suits as unlocks, and different versions of it (desert, forest etc.).
thx for the information nobody cares about, can we please see a little bit more multiplayer
its funny cause everybody cares about the classes
i stand corrected lol, everybody cared about that for a while but i like it this way. but really lets see some more in game stuff
i agree everyone cares about classes, but this is the same info we’ve been given already, i think most people want multiplayer gameplay
In the PSM3 (Playstation 3 Magazine) is a big preview / article about BF3!!!
Please tell me not only the engineer is going to have the M4. I want to be an assault with the M4. Still upset the SpecOps class is not comming back.
Please tell me th M4 is not a engineer only weapon. I’m nasty with the M4 but hate engineer class. Please assault and engineer gun.
All this talk of balance and everyone has failed to mention that sweet mustache riding above th e assualts mouth?
‘Bought time assualt got some facial hair love in this series.
All this funny talk and like many have said, these are tried and true combinations. Bf2 had multiple kits, and it was fine but it didn’t give many people any customization which made it rather difficult to do much else. Here what we have is Dice combining all those kits into 4 kits, however, they are still separate in their ways. Assault/Medic had pretty much the same kit as in BF2 except the diff. of the M203 and medic kit. Here you can once again have that medic and assault kit, but you can’t be both, this was also used inn BF2142 as mentioned above so this setup is sound. As for the support being ammo and LMG, that is once again something from BF2 so I’m sure BF2 vets are cheering and it really does give balance again, and also they want support to use their bullets for suppression, what better way then giving them the ammo packs and the award bonus so people will use this idea. They are trying to give us a reason to play the game as it is meant to be played, while still giving us the freedom to choose. This is perfection.
In BF2, pretty much everyone was playing Medic as an Assault. It makes sense for DICE to fuse those two classes, as I rarely saw someone playing Assault in BF2, besides the occasional noob-tuber.
These classes look good to me and an improvement from the classes of BFBC2. A lot of times I would see people using the assault kit and keep sitting on their ammo packs to replenish 40mm grenades… It was pretty lame.
And in terms of realism, it makes more sense that the “support” class carries ammo packs rather than the assault class itself.
I just hope people use med kits over the 40mm attachment often enough.
they will as long as revives and medpack uses give more points, which they probably will
