IGN posted an interesting video interview with DICE and Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Bach, whom we’ve seen a lot of these days, giving interviews left and right.

In the video, Bach explains how Battlefield 3 isn’t just gunning for Call of Duty, but trying to take the next step, the step beyond that. Bach makes an interesting point in DICE trying to look at their own vision rather than looking at what the competitor is doing.

“If you start looking too much at everyone else, you kind of start building what everyone else is building, and we don’t want that, we want to create a great Battlefield experience, based on our own values, and vision, rather than looking at different market groups.”

This is exactly the kind of words we want to hear from DICE — that they’re not just trying to do what everyone else is doing, but are still sticking to their own vision and roots. We’ll know a lot more once Battlefield 3 is fully revealed at E3 next month.

Ironic how they seemed quite eager to copy what Modern Warfare was doing into Bad Company 2. Hopefully this time, Mr. Bach speaks the truth and not just something the EA PR department told him to say.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, BF:BC2 was completely different from the CoD series.

    I guess you’ve never played it…

Compare BF2 to BC2 and it’s clear which direction they moved towards. BC2 isn’t 100% like Modern Warfare, but it sure as hell is more MW than it is BF2.

if they want to make a good shooter they should simply ignore call of duty or other shooters (as they did in the past). the fact that they want to compete with cod will just make the game worse.

I agree completely with you John, BF series and BFBC series were completely different than COD series games. I’m not going into the specifics, FYI Battlefield 1942 released in 2002, COD’s first title released in 2003. Battlefield 2 and its spin-off series Bad Company’s multi-player were built off the same principals as 1942. Doing minimal research before you post works well, just like thinking before you speak.

Seriously, “It sucks, because it’s on CoD”. You little kids… Did you know that Black Ops has helicopters? Do they suck? No, they don’t. DICE is going 100% in the right direction.

LOL, 2 writing errors in your quote!

    This is better:
“If you start looking too much at everyone else, you kind of start building what everyone else is building, and we don’t want that. We want to create a great Battlefield experience, based on our own values and vision, rather than looking at different market groups.”
