Battlefiled 3 karkand
Strike at Karkand is one of the all time greatest maps ever made, not just in the Battlefield series, but among all multiplayer games. It has the same cult status as de_dust has in Counter Strike, and we’re all thrilled that DICE is remaking the map for Battlefield 3.

Yesterday, DICE revealed the first details on the map, where they also released the first concept art of Strike at Karkand for Battlefield 3. Note that the concept art isn’t meant to represent the final map, only the look, feel, and color palette of the new version.

And we must say, the new colors are a welcomed addition to Karkand, as the BF2 version was dust colored from top to bottom — literally, every building, road, ground surface, and even the sky was a variation of a dust/yellow color. We’re glad to see some colors and variations in the architecture. So far, the new Karkand is looking good, even though we don’t have any in-game screenshots.

What do you think of the new Karkand look?

This looks awesome!! the only thing i wish for this game is, for some Bad Company 2 maps & Rush mode , that would make this game for me more perfect!

It looks very good with the color and gamma!

But I don’t see how the bottom picture should “be” the top picture?
What is that big building on the bottom one? There is no building like that in the top picture…?

“An early piece of concept art for the Frostbite 2 reimagining of a true classic. Meant to represent lighting and color palette only. Actual map layout will be very similar to the original.”

If anything that looks more like concept art for Mashtuur City than Karkand, especially if you compare it to this image from BF2

Yep Mashtuur was more of a sprawling city, like in their new concept art, Karkand was much more limited building wise.

Does indeed look more like Mashtuur, which I personally prefered over Karkand.

looks really good :D but what i would like them 2 do is BF3 in night time aswell seeing the new frost engine in night time will look really good with the flashing light and c flying bullets from guns choopers and c a streak of light in the back ground where people are firing there rockets either from tanks or from aircrafts

This reminds me of Mashtuur City and the final image after the round is complete. Honestly, besides the Black Hawk whoring on that map, Mashtuur was an awesome map — can’t wait to play the remake in BF3.

Strike at Karkand one of the best multiplayer maps ever? I must disagree. Karkand was popular because it was close quarters, infantry focused, and had a really low view distance and not too many objects in the map, which at the time meant people with crappy computers could run it. There were much better maps in BF2.

True, I think Gulf of Oman was better, but I still played Karkand twice as much, it’s just too addictive and there’s something about it I can’t put my finger on.

And I doubt people played it because it ran better — it didn’t, I got the same FPS on all BF2 maps. People played Karkand because it offered great urban combat.

People should stop thinking that that’s the new Strike at Karkand look, it’s just concept art made to demonstrate the lightning and colour palette. As they said, the actual map will look pretty much the same as in BF2, which is a good thing.
I’m looking forward to blowing up that 10 story building near the square so annoying snipers wouldn’t annoy me.

This picture is not how the final map will look like! It’s just to show the new colouring and atmosphere! The final map will be “Very similar to BF2 Strike at Karkand” as DICE said!

Yep. I don’t think they’ll deviate too much from the original Karkand layout.

Gosh DID YOU GUYS READ THE TEXT AT ALL???? The lower picture IS NOT from Karkand but from a completely different city. It is only meant to demonstrate the colors, lightining and graphics from the new one… New Karkand WILL be pretty much the same as the old one.
